It feels hard to escape the sheer amount of summer 2022 fashion trends I’ve seen emerge: Cargo pants. Clogs. Jorts. Mesh dresses. Every season, my wish list of trends to try and buy gets larger, and so does the price tag that comes along with them. Luckily, sale season is upon us and can provide a fairly easy way to test out some of the looks I love at a fraction of the cost.

Colorful flats

Ballet flats—once a simple staple among off-duty models and prep-school sweethearts—now come in a variety of textiles and patterns to elevate any outfit. While the silhouette can lend itself to more conservative vibes, the introduction of bold and colorful selections offer a fun, youthful flair.

Cropped vests

Sexy workwear is at the top of the summer 2022 fashion trends list and has been spotted on some of our favorite celebrities, with menswear-style vests reigning. Wear one with jeans for a night out or with wide-leg pants to the office.

White tanks

There’s nothing more classic than a white tank top during the hot summer months. While designers have been reinventing and elevating the tank during the last few seasons (one has only to look at Prada’s fall-winter 2022 runway), sticking to the basics is always in style. If micro-shades aren’t big enough to shield your eyes from the sun during a beach outing, good news: Normal-sized shades and oversized sunnies are taking over. Hexagon and octagon shades, a favorite of Hailey Bieber, aren’t just useful to keep the sun’s rays out of your eyes, but they’re actually cute. Never did I think Roger Federer would be a shining beacon of hope for my summer style, yet here we are. The trend references old money aesthetics and preppy, sweat-wicking garments: Think exercise dresses, oversized cable-knit sweaters, and chunky sneakers. For the most part, exercise dresses have been a staple within the Hot Girl Walk community since the pandemic, but with a new athletic-coded aesthetic on everyone’s FYP, exercise dresses are here to stay.
