Colorful flats

Ballet flats—once a simple staple among off-duty models and prep-school sweethearts—now come in a variety of textiles and patterns to elevate any outfit. While the silhouette can lend itself to more conservative vibes, the introduction of bold and colorful selections offer a fun, youthful flair.

Raffia accessories

While some fashion trends are beloved all year, raffia accessories and bags scream summer. Raffia and straw slides, totes, and hats are among designers’ favorites for spring, summer, and cruise collections, with affordable retailers following suit, meaning you can snag the trend easily.

White tanks

There’s nothing more classic than a white tank top during the hot summer months. While designers have been reinventing and elevating the tank during the last few seasons (one has only to look at Prada’s fall-winter 2022 runway), sticking to the basics is always in style. The duch*ess of Cambridge is also a fan.

The Scandi style (and Scandi hair too!) is a fan favorite of high-end designers and street style regulars alike, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t clog it up this summer. There are options for everyone, including chunky rubber styles and natural leather-wood combinations.

Low-rise miniskirts

Regardless of trends, anyone at any age can wear a miniskirt, and summer is the perfect time to do it. While the low-rise look used to be reserved for baggy jeans, the shorter cut is emblematic of the Y2K style seen on runways and in your favorite stores.

Beaded baguettes

Thanks to And Just Like That…, Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic baguette silhouette is back in favor with a summer treatment. Beaded accessories, often colorful and whimsical in nature, are a fun handbag trend to pair with any outfit as the sun sets on summer. Bonus points for outlandish designs on your beaded baguette: You can never go wrong with wearing a lobster on your purse à la Staud.

Geometric shades

If micro-shades aren’t big enough to shield your eyes from the sun during a beach outing, good news: Normal-sized shades and oversized sunnies are taking over. Hexagon and octagon shades, a favorite of Hailey Bieber, aren’t just useful to keep the sun’s rays out of your eyes, but they’re actually cute. While it may seem that all sunglasses shapes are the same at the core, geometric sunnies are the new way to switch up your accessories game. If you’re trying to be that girl, look no further.

Never did I think Roger Federer would be a shining beacon of hope for my summer style, yet here we are. The trend references old money aesthetics and preppy, sweat-wicking garments: Think exercise dresses, oversized cable-knit sweaters, and chunky sneakers. For the most part, exercise dresses have been a staple within the Hot Girl Walk community since the pandemic, but with a new athletic-coded aesthetic on everyone’s FYP, exercise dresses are here to stay.

You have full permission to steal your boyfriend’s work shirt thanks to one of the easiest-to-pull-off summer trends: oversized button-downs that look just as cool tucked into trousers as they do over a bikini. Think soft colors and pinstripes for summer 2022.

Wedges have gotten a major upgrade from their Isabel Marant sneaker heel roots. Like other summer sandals (strappy platforms, thong flip-flops, canvas espadrilles…), wedges aren’t just for reminiscing on campy 2008 fashion; you’re not going to roll your ankle wearing them. Emily Ratajkowski’s Simon Miller coffee-colored plastic pair are at the very top of the summer trends list, and for good reason.

Jorts

Jorts supremacy deniers, stay back. While tiny inseams are all the rage right now for mens’ shorts, the summer 2022 version for women is defined by long, Adam Sandler–level denim cutoffs.
