All street style–approved
If you know me at all, whether in real life or through social media, you know my affinity for a good blazer. What first began as a desire to look more professional in my younger years has evolved into a devotion to The Blazer’s various silhouettes and endless wearability. The boxy, the cinched, the wool, the cashmere-lined, and the oversize—give me a blazer and you’re giving me a good time. Not all blazers are created equal, however, and the best blazer outfits consist of three pillars: craftsmanship, functionality, and timelessness.
Madeleine Frandsen of Havre Studio knows the importance of a high-quality everyday staple. (After all, there’s nothing more sustainable than buying well-made clothing and wearing it often.) Before starting her label in 2019 between Copenhagen and Mexico City, Frandsen searched the world for aged pieces, aspiring to prolong their life cycle by reimagining them. The same can be said for the blazer as a whole, which reappears in distinctive and classic ways time and time again. Fashion is a pendulum, after all.
“I was born and raised in Copenhagen, where women have worn oversize clothes and menswear forever, so it always came naturally to me to wear my father’s or my boyfriend’s blazers before starting Havre Studio,” the designer explains. All of the offerings at Havre are recycled, repurposed, or vintage (or a combination thereof), holding onto the item’s original appeal. “We love making classic blazers with contemporary twists, such as our button-back pieces, contrasted blazers, [and] cropped blazers. It gives a good personal touch to a classic piece.”
With those three pillars in mind, Havre continues to make waves among celebrities and fashion insiders for its reworked and luxe options. A word of advice from the designer for finding a blazer that lasts: “I would never buy a blazer in synthetic material. There are so many good options out there in high-quality wool, cashmere, silk, etc. I think they are way more timeless. If one is concerned about the price, vintage is such a good option to get quality materials in a more affordable manner.”
