AtChristmas 2018, we thought it would be a good time to take a look atouterwear, popular in the 1920s.

Capes and wraps were often worn with evening dressin the late 1910’s and early1920’s. They weremade of opulent fabrics, such as velvet and brocade, with high collars and accessorisedwith furs.
Many capes came without fastenings, which made them difficult to wear, as they had to be balanced on the shoulders. Capes were still popular on the catwalks ofParis, in 1925.

Coats took over from capes later in the decade as they were far more practical and easy to wear, with raglan sleeves becoming very popular. A raglansleeve extends in one piece from the collar of a garment to the cuff, creating a diagonal seam from the collarbone to the underarm, givingmore movement to the arms.
Coats tended to be simple, closed with just a single button wrapped over to the right and edged with fur.
