The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced finalization of the city’s 2024 living wage (the minimum amount needed to satisfy living requirements for a family of three in Seoul calculated as an hourly wage) at ₩11,436 per hour. Extrapolated to a monthly salary based on a 40-hour workweek, or 209 hours per month, the amount comes to ₩2,390,124.

The 2024 living wage reflects an increase of 2.5% (₩279) to the current living wage of ₩11,157, exceeding the 2024 minimum hourly wage of ₩9,860 announced by the government in August by ₩1,576.

The city decided on the 2024 living wage on Wed, Sep. 13 after deliberations with the SMG Living Wage Committee comprising leaders of labor unions and experts in the field.

The city announced that it decided on the living wage after the committee’s comprehensive consideration of public-private equity, city financial conditions, and the inflation rate.
