Actress Yara Shahidi is the latest signing of Dior, they chose her as the image of its fashion and beauty line to represent the firm on a global level.
The announcement of Yara Shahidi joining Dior was made this weekend, and now she takes part in the extended family of faces that represent the brand, among many other celebrities such as actresses Nina Dobrev and Jennifer Lawrence, model Cara Delevingne and Iris Law or the member of BlackPink Jisso.
We could expect this news to come since Yara has worn pieces by the French Maison many times in the past. She’s shared pictures and videos wearing Dior outfits like the monogram printed two-piece in this post, and she also wore Dior Haute Couture to the Critic’s Choice Awards earlier this year.
In fact, that same gown is the one she’s wearing in the video she shared when she took the announcement of the new ambassadorship in her own hands. The Grown-ish star made a post on Instagram where she wrote: “Can you spot the newest Dior GLOBAL ambassador for BOTH beauty AND fashion?”
The dress, part of Dior ‘Le Château du Tarot’ Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection, has an Asian-inspired style and she made it a real head-turner, few celebrities would have defended it in such an impeccable way. Now she officially becomes the ambassador for the fashion work of Maria Grazia Chiuri and makeup director Peter Philips.
It is also not the first time that Yara Shahidi collaborates with the luxury house. She already did it on the “Dior Stands with Women” initiative on International Women’s Day with the videos that they released to commemorate it. Shahidi is not only an award-nominated actress, but she is currently studying a degree in Social Studies and African-American studies at Harvard University in Boston, and when she participated in “Dior Stands With Women” she spoke on her journey in activism.
“What we know to be true is that so many young women aren’t given the space to be heard consistently, to feel as though people are genuinely taking the time to understand what they’re saying,” said Yara in her IWD video.
“And so when I go in to fight for what I believe is right, or what I believe is crucial to a certain project, I think there are many times that women — and it’s only exacerbated if you are a woman of color — tow the line between being viewed as assertive and driven or aggressive. And it is important and requires constant conversation even for me to know that my being assertive, my being driven and my being committed is not something to ever be ashamed of.”
