Having a dog in Hong Kong isn’t always a walk in the park. Unless you live in New Territories or one of the islands where there’s a larger abundance of open space, it can sometimes feel like the city is somewhat inhospitable to our furry friends—but not so!The tide is slowly turning to be more inclusive, as can be seen with a wave of new and well-established shopping malls opening their doors to our four-legged pals. Wetake a look at the best pet-friendlyshopping malls that invite you and your pooch to indulge in a spot of retail therapy.

1 APM
In true Kwun Tong fashion, APM can get rather busy, being so easily accessible from the MTR station. However, your dogs are welcome to join you on your shopping spree if they accompany you in a carrier or stroller. Within APM, Hong Kong-based pet store Red Carrot has plenty of pet accessories and essentials for pet owners. However, outside of APM, there are also plenty of pet-friendly shops in the neighbouring area, such as Cat Plus and I-Neko Family for pet supplies, and BT爬蟲 for reptile lovers.

2 D2 Place
Positioning itself as a social hub to promote local creative culture, D2 Place hosts many cultural happenings, including weekend creative markets and pop-up stores. Here, you can spend some quality time with your dog(s) relaxing under the sun on the terrace of dog-friendly restaurants, such as Bugis, which offers mouth-watering Singapore dishes at reasonable prices.
At the entrance, you can cool down with an ice-cold beer in summer—or warm up with a hot coffee in winter—at a semi-outdoor café called One Little Corner, all without leaving your dog out of your sight. Your pets are free to roam around the venue with you, but to ensure everyone’s enjoyment of this pet-friendly mall, there are some rules for four-legged friends to adhere to. The neighbouring area is also fairly pet-friendly, with plenty of coffee shops in the vicinity that welcome you and your pets.

3 Elements
Popular and gigantic shopping mall Elements welcomes dogs as long as their feet don’t touch the ground. This means that if your dog can be hand-carried or is comfortable staying in a pet stroller, you can roam around this one-million-square-foot shopper’s paradise together. However, the policy of each shop is separate from the mall’s, so it’s not recommended to go into the shops with your pooches (other than guide dogs, of course). The best place for furry friends to be is Civic Square, which offers plenty of space to walk around in and six amazing restaurants with alfresco dining options in a casual, relaxing vibe.

4 The Mills
This revitalisation project by the Nan Fung Group acts as an arts hub for business incubators and experiential retail shops. The whole facility is dog-friendly, and your dogs are welcome to peruse the shops with you so long as they are kept on a leash at all times.
Coffee shops such as Cozy Coffee, where “outdoor seating” is offered, welcome you and your dogs for a quick bite, otherwise, there is a nice outdoor rooftop space, just outside of Honbo, on the fourth floor, where you can grab some takeaway, to sit and enjoy your own alfresco dining.
Although there isn’t a dedicated store for pets accessories, certain shops like The Common Ground stock pet accessories, such as Wild One and home-grown brand Momotone. The café next door, Fleur, also offers “outdoor seating” and a special dog menu for its four-legged friends, and a veterinary clinic, Vet 01, can also be found on the ground floor, which offers general outpatient service.

5 Peak Galleria
The Peak Galleria is now dog-friendly! Not only are pets welcome in restaurants with outdoor seating, but you can also enjoy a pet picnic on the roof and partake in a little window shopping in the mall with your pup by your side. Dogs are welcome inside the shops if you see the blue dog-friendly seal in their shopping window! Additionally, if you require a pet trolley to ferry your little one around, you may hire one from the Peak Galleria, with the first three hours free, simply by leaving a deposit of $500.
The Peak Galleria also has a recently-opened pet store, The Barkyard, which also houses a mini swimming pool for pups to come and have a dip with their humans for $380 for 30 minutes. For the entry fee, you have access to the showers, towels, and lifejacket. If you are just looking to freshen up your pup after a hike, you may opt to use their shower facilities—without the pool—for $180.

6 Petoyo
The latest addition to the pet-friendly shopping mall scene is Petoyo, due to open soon in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is a seven-storey shopping mall dedicated to everything and anything pet-related. From a pet kindergarten and a PetoMart supermarket to professional imaging scanning services, cafés, and even a Japanese pet onsen for you and your pet to kick back and relax, Petoyo will be the one-stop-shop for all pet owners.
Petoyo will also have an exclusive clubhouse on the top floor, where members can go to relax with their pets and hire out the vicinity for pet parties. The roof is also home to a 100-metre Pet Sky Garden for pets, which overlooks the city, and offers a nice open area for pets to run freely and play. For those of you who cannot make it out to Tsim Sha Tsui, you may visit Petoyo Mini at 65 Bonham Road.

7 The Pulse
The Pulse is best for grabbing a bite to eat with your pups, at any one of their beachside eateries. Pet-friendly restaurants like Sip Song even offer a special doggie menu, where you can order your pup a bowl of chicken rice, and wrap up with a sweet treat from Cookie Smiles for afters.
The Pulse has also been known to host pet-friendly markets and events, where the doggie pool makes a special appearance on the rooftop during the summer. The Pulse is also home to Paws United Charity’s cat adoption centre, and also has a small pet store called The Dog’s Garden nearby where you can pick up a range of pet accessories and snacks. A shuttle bus service is available between Ocean Park MTR station and Repulse Bay. Dogs need to stay inside their pet bag to board the bus, but once arrive at the mall, they can walk freely inside.

8 Stanley Plaza
Stanley is long known for being dog-friendly, with airy Stanley Plaza offering lots of open space, unlike typical air-conditioned, enclosed shopping malls in Hong Kong. A string of alfresco restaurants—such as Beef and Liberty and Classified—overlooks a spacious amphitheatre and children’s playground. Stanley Plaza has two pet stores, The Dog’s Garden and Ruff & Fetch, both of which offer grooming services, and sell a range of pet treats and accessories.
If you don’t feel like eating or shopping, then strolling in the piazza and admiring the 160-year-old colonial Murray House along the breezy peninsula is not a bad idea on a sunny day. One of the longest surviving buildings in Hong Kong, this now houses a handful of restaurants with amazing views of Stanley Bay.
If you prefer more of a walk, then you can make your way to nearby Stanley Main Street, where there are more local shops attracting lots of tourists at the weekends. The open and airy space in the piazza has the capacity to hold events for the public on weekends, too, so keep an eye out.

9 Yoho Mall
This large, air-conditioned shopping mall in Yuen Long is a shopper’s paradise, and dogs are welcome to tag along on your shopping spree so long as they are carried or put in a stroller or pet carrier. Yoho Mall has pet strollers of all sizes for you to rent and the rental system operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Shop from a range of pet accessories, food, and treats at Pet Line in Yoho II, followed by a spot of brunch at Green Waffle in Yoho I, where doggies can order from their very own pet-friendly menu—a plate of banana oat waffles, anyone?
