We should never underestimate the difference hair colours can make when it comes to shifting our mood, changing our aesthetic and expressing where we're at. Even a teensy colour tweak can make a whole world of difference (case in point: face-framing highlights will give complexions an instant glow-up), and as the seasons change, our hair colour is one way to reflect where we're at and what we want to channel, accordingly.
As for what's hot for spring 2024? Copper tones are just as popular as ever, but they're getting racier and firmly entering red territory. Cherry cola has been popping off since the start of the year, but its one that works just as beautifully as the weather (and our skin tone) warms up, too. And, copper's baby sis shade, sunkissed peach and apricot blonde, will also be sharing the spotlight. The classics (brunette and blonde) are going nowhere, but extra attention is getting paid to details. Glossy finishes can next-level a hair colour, as can getting the undertone right. We spoke to Hailey Bieber's hair colourist, Matt Rez, who told us the brunette shade he'll be backing through spring/summer.
So, let's get to it. These are the hair colours to know for spring 2024…
Cherry cola
Cherry cola is the cool girl shade to know about if you're considering a hair shade with some extra flair. It takes the copper trend a little deeper and sultrier, which may not be what first comes to mind for spring/summer hair trends, but we're feeling it. “Think more red, more vibrant tones –a cherry, plum vibe,” confirms Harriet Muldoon, colour specialist at Larry King salon. "Violet-toned cherry reds are taking the spotlight,” agrees top hair stylist and trend forecaster, Tom Smith.
“Dua Lipa has incorporated this cherry cola trend perfectly,” says celebrity hair stylist Jay Birmingham. And it plays well across hair textures – “particularly for curly hair,” says Louis Driver, senior stylist at Bleach London. “Whether vivid or muted, red adds a fun, bold and dynamic look to curly hair, enhancing the texture, shine and volume. For the non-committal types there are lots of semi permanent reds available you can play around with,” he adds.
