FAQs
Traceable Down Standard, sometimes known as Global Traceable Down Standard is an animal welfare standard developed by independent certification organization NSF International, available to companies that use duck or goose down in their products.
What does 100 traceable mean? ›
Enhanced traceability ensures that the supply chain data is 100% accurate from the forest to the point of export. Nowadays, there are techniques to predict geographical provenance of wood and contribute to the fight against illegal logging.
Does Patagonia use real down? ›
100% of the down we source for our products (except our sleeping bags; learn more about our bags here) is certified to the RDS, and all our down suppliers are certified, too.
What is traceable duck down? ›
The virgin down in our sleeping bags is certified to help ensure the birds that supply the feathers are not force-fed or live-plucked.
What does "RDS certified down" mean? ›
The Responsible Down Standard aims to improve the welfare of ducks and geese used for down. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is a voluntary standard that incentivizes the down and feather industry to treat ducks and geese more humanely and rewards organizations leading the way.
Is RDS down really cruelty free? ›

What does traceable results mean? ›
In the context of measurement science, traceable, when referring to metrological traceability, is the property of a measurement result in which the result can be related to a national measurement reference through a documented unbroken chain of calibrations, each contributing to the measurement uncertainty.
What is a traceable standard? ›
NIST-traceable standards are reference materials certified to specific values laid out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They are designed specifically for standardized instrument calibration and quality assurance protocols aimed at eliminating measurement uncertainties.
What does fully traceable mean? ›
(treɪsəbəl ) adjective. If one thing is traceable to another, there is evidence to suggest that the first thing was caused by or is connected to the second thing. The probable cause of his death is traceable to an incident in 1724.
How can you tell a fake Patagonia? ›
The obvious thing beyond this is simply the quality of the item itself. Fake Patagonia is rarely made to 'replica' standard, like you might see with some brands such as Supreme. Patterns and logos are difficult for fake-vendors to reproduce.
The Down Sweater is windproof and treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent). The DWR will shed light rain for short periods. If you plan on being out for more extended periods or in a downpour, we recommend wearing a shell over it.
Can Patagonia down be washed? ›
A front-loading washing machine is preferred, though a top-loader will work just fine on a hand-wash or delicate setting. Down items will have better loft, which directly equates to better performance (keeping you warm), if you use a dryer on low heat rather than line drying.
What is the warmest down fill? ›
900 fill down is the highest quality down commercially available and considered the absolute gold standard of insulation—with an unmatched warmth-to-weight ratio, it is highly compressible, ultralight and amazingly warm.
What does "traceable down" mean? ›
The NSF Global Traceable Down Standard (Global TDS) ensures that down in apparel, household, and commercial products comes from a responsible source that respects animal welfare and can be fully and transparently traced. Down is a byproduct of the food industry.
What is the highest quality duck down? ›
EIDERDOWN, FROM THE COMMON EIDER DUCK, IS EXCEPTIONALLY SOFT AND HAS INSULATING PROPERTIES SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER DOWN. White vs Grey down: there is no difference in quality due to the colour of the down.
What does RDS certification mean? ›
Responsible Down Standard (RDS), certifies products that contain feathers and down from certified farms. It ensures that the feathers and the duvet used in the padded products derive from geese and ducks raised in compliance with the principles and criteria of animal welfare.
What does traceable fabric mean? ›
Traceability means knowing when, where, and how each piece of a garment is made, allowing us to trace it back from source to consumer, providing visibility of the fashion supply chain and enabling improved sustainability governance by industry players. Read more. News.
What is the PETA responsible down standard? ›
The Responsible Down Standard claims to “ensure that down and feathers do not come from supply chains in which animals have been subjected to any unnecessary harm.” But every farm and slaughter facility visited by PETA Asia investigators sells down to RDS-certified suppliers.
What is 90/10 RDS certified down? ›
A 90/10 ratio means that the product is 90% down (remember – down is the fluffy stuff) and 10% feather. This is the science behind any down-to-feather ratio you see, the higher the down percentage, the warmer it will be.
