What is traceable down standard? ›

Traceable Down Standard, sometimes known as Global Traceable Down Standard is an animal welfare standard developed by independent certification organization NSF International, available to companies that use duck or goose down in their products.

Enhanced traceability ensures that the supply chain data is 100% accurate from the forest to the point of export. Nowadays, there are techniques to predict geographical provenance of wood and contribute to the fight against illegal logging.

The virgin down in our sleeping bags is certified to help ensure the birds that supply the feathers are not force-fed or live-plucked.

The Responsible Down Standard aims to improve the welfare of ducks and geese used for down. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is a voluntary standard that incentivizes the down and feather industry to treat ducks and geese more humanely and rewards organizations leading the way.

While down is a byproduct of the food industry, this standard bans cruel practices, like live plucking and force feeding. RDS certification also requires that ducks and geese are cared for according to the five freedoms of animal welfare: Freedom from hunger and thirst.

The Down Sweater is windproof and treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent). The DWR will shed light rain for short periods. If you plan on being out for more extended periods or in a downpour, we recommend wearing a shell over it.
