How long can you wear Air Optix night and day contacts? ›

AIR OPTIX ^® NIGHT & DAY ^® AQUA contact lenses are FDA-approved for up to 30 days and nights of continuous extended wear.

It's an excellent choice if you wear Air Optix contact lenses. The mild yet effective solution will keep your eyes fresh and comfortable as it retains moisture for up to 16 hours. Opti-Free Express solution is very easy to use.

Discontinued in September of 2021, Air Optix Aqua was phased out in favour of a newer version of the product that featured HydraGlyde technology.

Because NIGHT & DAY contacts are so breathable, they can be worn continuously for up to 30 nights, even while sleeping. No more fumbling around for glasses in the morning or having to deal with the usual hassles of soft contact lenses.

Is It Safe to Nap While Wearing Contacts? It is not safe to sleep while wearing contacts, even if you are just taking a nap. The occasional or accidental nap in your contacts can increase your risk of an infection. If you think there is a chance you could fall asleep, it is safest to remove your contact lenses first.

Issues Related to Extended Wear

Daily disposable contacts don't allow oxygen to travel through to the eye or hold moisture well. This can lead to extreme dry eyes, corneal scarring, and therefore impaired vision, which may even lead to the need for a corneal transplant.

Some common reasons for your vision to be blurry, cloudy, or hazy in your contacts are: Deposits on the contact lens. Contact lens or eye is dry. Lens movement or rotation.

As of September 30, 2021 all Air Optix Aqua products, including Toric (for Astigmatism) and Multifocal will be discontinued and replaced with Air Optix plus HydraGlyde®, a new lens developed by Alcon Inc.

According to The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) the only safe contact lenses to sleep in or nap in are extended wear contact lenses, these have been specifically created with sleeping in mind, so contain materials such as, lotrafilcon A, an Aquaform which makes sleeping in lenses much safer.

Don't Reuse Your Contacts

No. You should never shower while wearing your Air Optix contacts. Please remove your lenses before showering, bathing, or swimming to avoid exposing them to water.

If you have daily wear lenses and the replacement schedule allows for multi-day use, then you can wear them for multiple days, typically for eight to 16 hours each day (see above for how long you can wear contacts in each use).

The FDA approves some contacts for extended wear. These can be worn overnight for even as long as a month continuously. Not everyone's eyes may tolerate this, however. The FDA recommends taking extended wear contacts out at least once a week for one day/night to let the eyes rest and recover.
