Toshinori Yagi, more commonly known as All Might, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Katsuki Bakugo) in the My Hero Academia franchise.
He was the former No. 1 Pro Hero and the eighth user of the One For All Quirk, and now a staff member at U.A Academy, teaching Foundational Hero Studies. After fighting against All For One where he used up the leftover embers of One For All completely to defeat All For One, All Might retired from crime fighting, and thus, ending his era. He was replaced by his rival, Endeavor as his successor as the No. 1 Hero.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Kenta Miyake, who is known for voicing Muhammad Avdol in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, and by voice actor Christopher R. Sabat in the English dub, who also voiced Vegeta and Piccolo in the Dragon Ball franchise, Roronoa Zoro in the One Piece franchise, and Alex Louis Armstrong in the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.

Overview[]
Toshinori Yagi, better-known as All Might, is Japan's #1. Pro-Hero and the Symbol Of Peace. When All Might was at his prime, the crime rate in Japan decreased to less than 6%. He is widely regarded as the strongest hero.
Unknown to the world, All Might was actually born Quirkless. As a teenager, Toshinori became the eighth One For All successor, after inheriting the One For All Quirk from a Pro-Hero named Nana Shimura. Five years prior to the story, All Might fought a bloody duel with Japan's most powerful supervillain, All For One. All Might won the duel, although he sustained crippling injuries to his respiratory organs and lost his stomach. Subsequent surgeries reduced All Might to an emaciated man who could barely maintain his muscle form for three hours everyday. Even so, All Might hid his battle with All For One and concealed his true form from the public, maintaining his rank as the No.1 Hero for years.
Eventually, All Might meets a Quirkless teenager named Izuku Midoriya. Impressed with Izuku's resolve to save people, All Might chooses him as his successor. He also joins his alma mater U.A High, teaching Foundational Hero Studies.
Unbeknownst to the world at large, however, is that All Might's great power is not his own, as he was actually born Quirkless. In truth, the Quirk he holds is one that was passed down to him from his mentor, and he's the eighth person to hold it. He's held the power since he was a mere teenager and has used it to become the Symbol of Peace he's known as today. Unfortunately, due to an intense battle with a powerful supervillain in his past, his body has significantly weakened. The only thing that has not weakened is his will to bring goodness and peace to the world.
Now, he can only do hero work for up to three hours a day, and, once his limit is reached, he becomes a lanky, skeletal man who constantly coughs up blood. Only a select few staff at U.A. know this, and even fewer know the true nature of his Quirk. The story of My Hero Academia follows his successor, Izuku Midoriya, as All Might teaches the young man how to hone the immense power he's been gifted with.
Appearance[]
In his hero form, Toshinori is extremely tall and very muscular man, whose design resembles a generic American comic book superhero. His hair spikes on top of his head and his whole body has more shadows than any other character in the series regardless of the time of day, furthering his stylized appearance. His Hero Costume consists of a red, white, and blue bodysuit with golden gloves and boots, a lot like generic American superheroes. It has been shown with and without a cape. Overall, its design is considered very classic.
In his true form, he is an overly-skinny man with angular features, long limbs, and neck. He has spiky, dishevelled hair with two bangs framing the sides of his face and loses his eyebrows from his hero form. He possesses a large scar that covers most of the left side of his chest, and it is not uncommon for him to spout blood from his mouth when excited or surprised. He typically wears baggy clothing to accommodate his Quirk's size change, but after his true form was exposed to the world, he started wearing more fitting clothes.
Note that in both forms, his eyes are sunken in. The difference is that you can see his eyes more in his true form.
Personality[]
Even as a Quirkless teenager, Toshinori Yagi possessed a strong sense of justice. He came up with the concept of "The Symbol Of Peace", to provide hope for citizens and alleviate their fears in the face of rising crime rates. He was greatly influenced by his One For All predecessor and mentor, Nana Shimura, and admired her as a mother figure. He was also mentored by Nana's best friend, Gran Torino, although he feared Gran Torino's violent sparring sessions. Nevertheless, he respected the older Pro-Hero.
In his public persona, All Might always sports a cheerful smile. He is a jovial, magnanimous, and courageous larger than life man, who presents himself as the ever-victorious Symbol Of Peace. All Might's exceptional achievements inspired an entire generation of heroes. Even the Hero-Killer Stain admires All Might as a true hero and evaluates other heroes using the Symbol Of Peace as the standard. In private, All Might becomes a more solemn individual. In his prime, he was notorious for being an extreme workaholic, ignoring the cautions of his sidekick, Sir Nighteye, and working non-stop up to 72 hours.
All Might is proud of his protege and successor, Izuku Midoriya, appreciating the boy's fearless commitment towards saving people. He also commends all students at U.A High for their courage and effort, reckoning them as true heroes. After losing his powers and retiring as a Pro-Hero, All Might dedicates himself to become a better teacher to all students, and does his best to mentor Izuku.
Despite his optimistic personality, All Might utterly loathes the supervillain, All For One. As a teenager, All Might was traumatized by the death of Nana Shimura at the hands of All For One. After becoming a Pro-Hero, All Might dedicated his efforts towards destroying All For One's criminal empire across Japan. He cannot comprehend nor tolerate All For One's crimes of exploiting people and ruining their lives. All Might is anguished upon learning that All For One's successor, Tomura Shigaraki is Nana Shimura's grandson.
In his true form, All Might becomes a more serious and focused person, although is still capable of showing his genuine smile and concern for others well-being, albeit not at his usual grandiose extent.
Regardless of what form he is in, All Might still embodies the ideals of a true hero with a good heart to match. Ever since he was young, he dreamed of becoming a symbol that others could rely on during harsh times, upon receiving his Quirk he would rise not only to become that symbol but to become a legend that would inspire countless others to become heroes and follow in his will. Even the notorious Hero Killer, Stain, regards All Might as a true hero and what every hero should be; selfless and willing to help others.
After his retirement, All Might dedicated the rest of his life to training Izuku, entrusting him with the information about the other One For All users and their Quirks.
Former Abilities[]
- One For All: All Might inherited the Quirk called "One For All." It would allow him to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This resulted in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability that make All Might nearly invincible.
- Vestige Manifestation: All Might wielded One For All for forty years, and despite being originally Quirkless, he imbued the Quirk with his vestige. The vestige takes a crude shape of All Might, and dwells with the vestiges of past One For All users, within Izuku Midoriya. All of All Might's knowledge is transmitted to the vestiges of One For All, through his vestige. However, the vestige cannot commune with All Might unless he is in close proximity with Izuku Midoriya.
- Intimidation: Even without his powers, All Might can project his own will to intimidate others in a similar manner to Stain. However, All Might's will instead stems from his protectiveness towards Izuku and his willingness to risk his own life for his student.
Ultimate Moves[]
- California Smash (カリフォルニア スマッシュ Kariforunia Sumasshu?): All Might attacks with a frontal somersault to built up momentum and air pressure and is then released in a smash,this attack is in name of the Dave's birthplace.
- Carolina Smash (カロライナスマッシュ Karoraina Sumasshu?): All Might runs towards an enemy while keeping his hands in a cross position, then in a downwards cross chop to the enemy's head. This move is first used against Tomura, but it is intercepted by a Nomu, who withstood the full force of the attack, seemingly unharmed.
- Detroit Smash (デトロイトスマッシュ Detoroito Sumasshu?): All Might performs that same attack as Texas Smash except this move is with a downward punch instead of a straight punch. The punch is powerful enough to create a shock wave large and powerful enough to clear the weather. This move is first used to save Izuku and Katsuki from the Sludge Villain.
- Double Detroit Smash (ダブルデトロイトスマッシュ Daburu Detoroito Sumasshu?): All Might and Izuku use One For All at 100% and combine their Detroit Smash attacks to create a smash more powerful than anything they can accomplish alone. First used this move to defeat Wolfram.
- Missouri Smash (ミズーリースマッシュ Mizūrī Sumasshu?): All Might runs towards an enemy while keeping his hand flat and hits the enemy on the head while running past them in order to knock them out. This move is first used against Habit Headgear.
- Nebraska Smash (ネブラスカスマッシュ Neburasuka Sumasshu?): While throwing a punch, All Might rotates his arm to create a tornado. This move is first used to destroy a swarm of two hundred Mini-Bombers.
- New Hampshire Smash (ニューハンプシャースマッシュ Nyūhanpushā Sumasshu?): All Might punches the air while in the air to propel himself backwards towards his enemy and smashes his body into the enemy, crushing and injuring the enemy with his great weight. This move is first used to propel himself at Izuku.
- Oklahoma Smash (オクラホマスマッシュ Okurahoma Sumasshu?): All Might whirls around while enemies have latched onto him, spinning with enough force that when they are released they are easily thrown through concrete. This move is first used against Nomu however it was named during the Kamino Ward Incident.
- Texas Smash (テキサススマッシュ Tekisasu Sumasshu?): All Might throws a punch in order to create wind pressure in order to blow objects and people away. This move is first used to save Izuku from the Sludge Villain.
- United States of Smash (ユナイテッド ステイツ オブ スマッシュ Yunaiteddo Suteitesu Obu Sumasshu?): All Might throws an immensely powerful punch and smashes his target into the ground. As All Might's final and strongest move, the impact of this smash is so great that it can not only reverberate shock-waves and leave massive craters in the ground, but also spawn twisters powerful enough to carry nearby buildings. This move was used to defeat All For One and marked the end of All Might's hero career.
Equipment[]
- Hercules (エルクレス Erukuresu): Ever since his retirement, All Might has gained himself heavily armoured car dubbed Hercules, using it as a means of transportation to provide aid for heroes. The vehicle itself is equipped with durable defense, strong enough to endure explosives at point-blank range.
- Armored All Might: In addition, Hercules is equipped with an armored battle suit that All Might used against his final showdown with All For Once. The armor itself not only provides protection, but also enhances his capablities, as well as provide him powers and abilities based on the Quirks used by his students.
Trivia[]
- All Might wielded One For All for forty years, longer than any of the nine One For All users. The 4th wielder, Hikage Shinomori wielded One For All for eighteen years.
- He always smiles as All Might to put people's fears at ease.
- It seems One for All compensates for his lack of muscle due to the damage All for One gave him; explaining why he is so overly-muscled, being the form he would be in normally as the power built up in him.
- Due to the danger posed by All for One trying to steal One for All, Toshinori focused solely on heroism and never tried to have a family.
- His mentor and predecessor had to give up her own child behind due to the danger.
- All Might's real name contains the kanji for "eight" (八), "tree" (木),"genius" (俊) and "law" (典).
- All Might likes movies.
- All Might's phone is red.
- All Might's signature moves are named after states and cities in the United States.
- In the First Popularity Poll, All Might is ranked fifth, which currently makes All Might the most popular Pro Hero and U.A. teacher in My Hero Academia.
- All Might has a habit of calling those who are younger than him "my boy", in his mind or while talking to them directly. He also has the habit of saying many English words.
- He might be a homage to the popular DC superhero named Superman.
- He has some similarities with Captain America:
- They both started out as thin powerless citizens but both had a strong sense of Justice.
- They both earned a superpower that made them the superheroes they are today.
