2022 HGTV Dream Home Winner — Warren, Vermont

The 2022 HGTV Dream Home was a modern cabin retreat nestled among ski resorts and gorgeous mountain views in Warren, Vermont. The prize, which also included a 2022 Grand Wagoneer and $250,000, was worth over $2.4 million.

The lucky winner of the 2022 Dream Home in Vermont was Karey Wolstenholm of Overland Park, Kansas. Karey said that people often laughed at her for entering giveaways including HGTV's Dream Home and Smart Home Sweepstakes. Not many people are going to be laughing now that she's won a multimillion-dollar prize!

The 2022 Dream Home Winner Ambush

Karey's sisters were in on the 2022 winner ambush. They told Karey that they were going to be filming a food show at their favorite restaurant. The prize is worth around $2.8 million in total.

The lucky winner of the Portsmouth Dream Home was Jeff Yanes of Austin, Texas. His name was selected from among over 136 million entries.

Jeff credited his win to entering twice a day nearly every day, thanks to the help of email reminders from HGTV. "I didn't think it was true. I thought someone was messing with me," he said about his first reaction to the surprise announcement from HGTV designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

The 2021 Dream Home Winner Ambush

With COVID still going strong, the winner ambush in 2021 happened virtually. HGTV told Jeff that they wanted to interview him in a video call for a segment about how more people are entering sweepstakes across America. Once the call began, they sprung the great news on him. The lucky winner of the 2020 Dream Home was Susan O’Gorman of Perry, Georgia. This mother of three used to take her children to Hilton Head for vacations when they were young. Now that her kids are grown, Susan can look forward to taking her first grandchild to the site of her enormous prize win.

Susan said she signed up for email reminders and entered the giveaway nearly every day, through both of the websites where you can enter. She's been trying to win the Dream Home for many years now. "Somebody has to win it," she told her friends and family members.

2019 HGTV Dream Home Winner — Whitefish, Montana

For the 2019 Dream Home, HGTV chose a mountain retreat in Whitefish, Montana. This house was built from scratch for the 2019 giveaway and designed by HGTV pro, Brian Patrick Flynn.

The 2019 Dream Home purposely blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor living space to take full advantage of Whitefish's stunning views.

The lucky winner of the 2019 Dream Home wasBeverly Fulkerson of Osgood, Indiana. HGTV drew Beverly's name from among more than 135 million other entries.

Like many winners, Beverly has been entering for years with no expectation of ever really being lucky enough to have her name drawn. HGTV's 2019 Winner Announcement said that she entered twice daily nearly every day since 1998.

The 2018 HGTV Dream Home winner wasEmily Munizof Nashville, Tennessee. She was randomly chosen as the winner from among 123 million entries. She'll receive a $1.8 million prize that includes the house, all furnishings and artwork, $250,000 in cash, and a 2018 Honda Accord vehicle, or she can take a million-dollar cash option instead of the home portion of a prize.

Emily and her husband each entered twice a day online nearly every day during the sweepstakes entry period. The couple fell in love with Washington State when they honeymooned there.

The HGTV Dream Home 2017 was an "updated southern farmhouse with coastal flair," according to its designer. Like the previous year's home, the 2017 Dream Home was a complete remodel. It's a three-bedroom four-bathroom single-level home set in St. Simon's Island, Georgia.

The 2017 HGTV Dream Home winner wasAnna Spangler of Kutztown, Pennsylvania. She was randomly chosen as the winner from among 131 million entries. She'll receive a $1.4 million prize that includes the house, all furnishings and artwork, $250,000 in cash, and a 2017 Honda Pilot SUV vehicle.

Anna entered twice a day online nearly every day during the sweepstakes entry period.

The 2017 Dream Home Winner Ambush:

Anna Spangler's best friend helped HGTV set up the 2017 ambush. Her friend set up a fun evening from Anna, her husband, and a group of friends at a wine and painting evening. They even explained away the camera crew by saying that the art studio was filming a commercial.

HGTV host Tiffany Brooks was masquerading as an employee of the art studio until about half-way through the evening, when she revealed herself and announced Anna's big sweepstakes win.

"It was surreal," Anna said, wiping tears from her eyes. “It is absolutely unbelievable!”

The 2016 HGTV Dream Home was the first that wasn't constructed from scratch. Instead, it was a total overhaul of an existing home. The 2016 Dream Home is a​3,100 square-foot home located near the Indian River in Merritt Island, Florida.

The 2016 HGTVDream Home winner was David Rennie of Shelton, Connecticut. His name was chosen from among 127 million entries to receive a beautiful home in Merritt Island, Florida, a GMC Denali vehicle, a new boat, $250,000 in cash, and more.

HGTV interior designerTiffany Brooks gave David Rennie the good news in a big surprise at his hometown church. You can see images from the ambush at the HGTV website.

David Rennie said he had been entering the HGTVDream Home Sweepstakes for years. "My wife would give me grief for entering, and we were both sure nothing like this would happen to us,” Rennie said.

According to an article in the TC Palm, David Rennie chose to accept the cash option instead of taking possession of the house.

The 2016 HGTVDream Home Winner Was Leaked!

As alleged in comments on the Dream Home Blog, the winner's name was leaked ahead of the official winner's announcement from HGTV.

A person named Mark Smiles posted on Facebookthat his college friend, David Rennie of Shelton, Connecticut was the 2016 HGTVDream Home winner. St Paul's Church also posted pictures of the Rennie family with Tiffany Brooks.

This isn't the first time that HGTV's big announcement was leaked. In 2011, Eric Makstenieks'HGTVDream Home win was leaked by a neighbor who saw the ambush.

2015 HGTV Dream Home Winner — Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

In 2015, the HGTVDream Home Sweepstakes prize was a gorgeous home in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, plus $250,000 cash and a GMC Acadia Denali vehicle.

The lucky 2015 winner was Kathy O'Dell of Huntsville, Alabama, whose name was picked from among 94 million entries. HGTV, who tricked the winner into thinking that a friend had won in order to surprise her with the big prize, has pictures of her reaction to the win on their website.

Kathy and her husband Steve each entered twice a day nearly every day of the giveaway's entry period, not just this year, but for the past 19 years! That shows that persistence really does pay off!

Kathy decided to accept the cash option instead of taking possession of the Dream Home, using the money to pay off debt and to buy a more affordable dream home in her area.

2014 HGTV Dream Home Winner — Lake Tahoe, California

The newlywed mother of three stepchildren was amazed and thrilled that she beat the odds to take the prize. "I love that house, I love the size, I love the location, I love the kitchen-- I don’t even cook and I love the kitchen," Laura Martin gushed upon finding out she had won this huge prize.

HGTV worked with Laura Martin's boss to surprise her at her place of business. She thought she was being honored for doing an exceptional job at work she'd done at her jobwhen really the gathering was to surprise her with her enormous prize win.

"I'm about to wet my pants," HGTV quotes Laura Martin as saying. She then told her whole office that lunch was on her. "For once I can buy the office lunch!"

2013 HGTV Dream Home Winner — Kiawah Island, South Carolina

Eric Makstenieks' win caused controversy when a neighbor saw Monica Pederson arrive to tell him about his big win, and to film his reaction for the 2011 Dream Home Special.

Donald P. Cook from West Virginia won the 2006 HGTV Dream Home, chosen from among nearly 40 million entries.

Donald Cook said that although he loved the Dream Home, he couldn't afford to live there. "A house that big is hard to maintain; the electricity bill alone is more than 10 times what mine is."

He intended to sell the house, retire, buy a bigger house in West Virginia, and do some traveling.
