Amazon Prime for Students, popularly known as Prime Student, is a discounted Prime membership for students in some specific countries like US, UK, and Canada.

With Prime Student, you can enjoy the Prime benefits like free and fast delivery, early access to Lightning Deals, college deals & exclusive promotions, unlimited video streaming with Prime video, unlimited photo storage, etc. at about 50% less price than the regular membership!

Amazon Prime for Students in US costs $7.49/month or $69/year after the 6-month free trial. You can cancel your membership whenever you want and you will not be charged if you cancel before the end of the trial period.

Eligibility Criteria (US)

To be eligible to sign up for and use Prime Student in US, you must

  1. Have an Amazon.com account.
  2. Be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  3. Be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request, and
  4. Have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu. If you are an eligible student and do not have a .edu email address, you can still qualify for the membership. (Explained in the verification process below)

Please Note:

  • You can avail Prime Student for a maximum of 4 years and you will have to verify your Prime Student qualification every 12 months.
  • If your verification documentation doesn’t meet the criteria set by Amazon, or if you choose not to verify your student status, you will automatically be upgraded to the Amazon Prime membership at the regular rate.
  • If you have been renewed at the regular rate but submit documentation within 60 days to show you are still eligible for Prime Student, Amazon will refund the amount you were charged on your Prime renewal date or a prorated refund if benefits were used. At that time, you will be charged the discounted rate to continue your Prime Student membership. You will be re-enrolled in Amazon Student on the date your proof of enrollment was verified.

Verification Process (US)

To get started Prime Student in US, visit ‘Join Prime Student Page’ on Amazon and follow the instructions there for your student verification. There are two ways by which you can get verified for Prime Student Membership:

  1. Verify your .edu email address:If you can verify your personal .edu email address, you will immediately qualify for Student Prime. You need not have an Amazon account with that email address. It can be verified separately.
  2. Using other documents: If you are an eligible student and do not have a .edu email address, you can still qualify for the membership. You just have to email your valid student proof toamazon-student-verification@amazon.com

You can send a scan, photo or screenshot of any one of the following documents as proof to get verified for your Prime Student:

  • Your student ID displaying the current term or an expiration date; just a student ID number is not valid
  • Your transcript or class list for the current term with your name and your school’s name on it
  • Your tuition bill for the current term with your name and your school’s name on it
  • An official acceptance letter for the upcoming term (must include matriculation date)

After verifying your document, Amazon will send you a follow-up email within 3-5 business days with a link which you can use to complete your signup process without a .edu email address.

However, you must sign up for Prime Student within 14 days of receiving the follow-up email, or else you will need to contact Customer Service again to register.

Amazon Prime for Students in UK

Amazon Prime for Students in UK costs £3.99/month or £39/year after the 6-month free trial. You can cancel your membership whenever you want and you will not be charged if you cancel before the end of the trial period.

Eligibility Criteria (UK)

To be eligible for Prime Student in UK, you must

  1. Have an Amazon.co.uk account
  2. Be aged 18 years or older
  3. Be a student enrolled in a higher education institution geographically located in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland.
  4. Be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request, and
  5. Have a valid academic e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .ac.uk if you’re a student in the UK, or .edu.ie if you’re a student in the Republic of Ireland. If you are an eligible student and do not have a .ac.uk or .edu.ie email address, you can still qualify for the membership. (Explained in the verification process below)

Please Note:

  • You can avail Prime Student for a maximum of 4 years. After you graduate, or at the end of your fourth year of Prime Student membership, whichever comes first, your Prime Student membership will end and your Amazon Prime membership will automatically renew on its anniversary date into a full paid membership for Amazon Prime at the regular rate unless cancelled.
  • After your six-month trial, your Prime Student trial will automatically convert to either a £39 per year or £3.99 per month Amazon Prime membership, whichever you choose during sign up process.
  • If you don’t want to automatically convert to a discounted Prime Student membership following your trial, you can change your Prime Student membership settings at any time by visiting Manage Your Prime Membership.

Verification Process (UK)

To get started with Prime Student UK, go to ‘Prime Student Sign-Up Page’ on Amazon and complete and submit the sign-up form. Click on the verification link sent to your email and follow the instructions there for your student verification. There are two ways by which you can get verified for Prime Student Membership:

  1. Verify your .ac.uk or .edu.ie email address: If you can verify your personal .ac.uk or .edu.ie email address, you will immediately qualify for Student Prime. You need not have an Amazon account with that email address. It can be verified separately.
  2. Using other documents: If you are an eligible student and do not have a .ac.uk or .edu.ie email address, you can still qualify for the membership. You just have to email your valid student proof to amazon-student-verification@amazon.co.uk

  • A valid NUS Extra or NUS Apprentice Extra card that shows your name, institution, and date of expiry.
  • A proof of student status letter (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and start date, expected graduation/completion date).
  • A tuition bill for the current term (must include institution name, course details and start date, student address).
  • A tuition invoice for the current term with your name and your institution’s name on it.
  • An official acceptance letter for the upcoming term (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and enrolment date, expected graduation/completion date).

After verifying your document, Amazon will send you a follow-up email within 3-5 business days with a link which you can use to complete your signup process without a .ac.uk or edu.ie email address.

Amazon Prime for Students in Canada

Amazon Prime for Students in Canada costs CDN$ 3.99/month or CDN$ 39/year after the 6-month free trial. You can cancel your membership whenever you want and you will not be charged if you cancel before the end of the trial period.

Eligibility Criteria (Canada)

To be eligible for Prime Student in Canada, you must

  1. Have an Amazon.ca account.
  2. Be a college, university or CEGEP student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college, university or CEGEP geographically located in Canada.
  3. Be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request, and
  4. Have a valid college, university or CEGEP email address. However, if you are an eligible student and do not have a valid college, university, or CEGEP email address, you can still qualify for the membership. (Explained in the verification process below)

Please Note:

  • Current Amazon Prime members that sign-up for Prime Student will receive a refund for the remaining months left on their current Amazon Prime subscription
  • You’re eligible for discounted Amazon Prime benefits for a maximum of 4 years, as long as you are a Prime Student member. And you may be asked to verify after every 12 months.
  • If your verification documentation doesn’t meet criteria set by Amazon Canada, or if you choose not to verify your student status, you’ll automatically be upgraded to the Amazon Prime membership at the regular rate (currently CDN$ 79/year) and your Prime Student membership will be cancelled.
  • If you’ve been renewed at the regular rate but submit documentation within 60 days to show you are still eligible for Prime Student, Amazon will refund the amount you were charged on your Prime renewal date. At the same time, they will charge you CDN$ 39 for an annual Prime Student membership, or CDN$ 3.99 for a monthly membership.
