Anna Wintour's Biographer Just Revealed What The Editor Eats In A Day (2024)

We’ve all seen The Devil Wears Prada. The film not-so-loosely based around Vogue‘s long-standing editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour who was marvellously portrayed by Meryl Streep. It’s a role that’s long been suspected of having Meryl blacklisted from Anna’s exclusive Met Gala guest list. Although the film was now released 17 years ago, many of its iconic scenes will be forever etched in our minds.

One moment in particular sees Miranda Priestly (Meryl’s character) ditching her incorrectly prepared steak by assistant Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) into the sink in favour of going out for lunch. Equal parts fascinating and frightening.

But, how much truth really was there to Anna’s meticulous lunch order? The author of Anna’s recently released biography, Amy Odell, just spilled the beans.

Sharing a video to TikTok, Amy ran through the question we didn’t know we wanted the answer to: “what does Anna Wintour normally eat?”.

“I will walk you through a typical food day for [Anna] but just to be clear, this is not a diet plan that people should follow,” she warned.

What does Anna Wintour eat in a day?

What does Anna Wintour eat for breakfast?

As you might’ve predicted: coffee. “She’s kind of a Starbucks addict,” Amy said.

Back in the ’90s, Anna’s go-to breakfast was an “egg on a roll”, which sounds kind of, boring? We’ve got to hope for Anna’s sake that there was some sort of barbeque or tomato sauce situation accompanying that egg.

Nowadays, she starts her day with a “whole milk latte grande extra hot, and a blueberry muffin.”

What does Anna Wintour eat for lunch?

“As I reported in my book, for years she was getting a steak and a caprese salad without the tomatoes from the Palm Restaurant close to her office in New York,” Amy explained, which immediately makes us cast our minds back to that steak scene.

For those familiar with the contents of a caprese salad, you’ll understand that asking for no tomatoes is essentially just asking for sliced mozzarella. But hey, she’s getting a hit of protein to power through the rest of the day.

Her daily coffees don’t begin and end at breakfast. According to Amy, “throughout the day she will ask for a handful of coffees. She will send her assistants an email with no subject and just write in the body of the email ‘coffee please’.”

Hey, at least she says please.

What does Anna Wintour eat for dinner…

It’s no secret that the fashion industry and healthy eating habits have (to put it nicely) had a strained relationship. However, if you’re asking Anna’s friends, “it’s a myth that she doesn’t eat.”

In fact, as dinner rolls around, Anna loves grilled fish and pasta, in particular, carbonara. Not much of a cook herself, Anna keeps a private chef on staff at both her New York residence and her estate on Long Island. Glorious.

And when she’s entertaining, “one of her favourite things to serve is a chicken pot pie.”

However, it’s unlikely you’ll see Anna with a glass of wine in hand – “at most she’ll maybe have a little white wine” – or dessert with her meal. Sorry, what?!

Speaking to her sweet tooth (or lack thereof) the late André Leon Talley told Amy “he’s never seen her eat dessert ever”.
