Does anti-slip coating work? ›

Thankfully, anti-slip and non-slip treatments are the perfect solution to ensuring the safety of people walking in wet areas or rooms with slippery surfaces.

When it is time to re-coat, simply add a fresh coat right over the existing coat. Quick and easy, once every 3 to 10 years depending on foot traffic. Properly applied and maintained, it will keep its slip resistance even when 500,000 – 1,000,000 people have walked over it!

Apply Non-slip Decking Oil

These oils are usually natural and contain compressed particles to create a rougher, non-slip surface. This option can be a little pricey, especially if you have a very large decking area, but it's a worthwhile investment if you don't want to change the appearance of your decking too much.

Antislip can only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered surfaces previously finished with Antislip. All other finishes must be completely and thoroughly removed first. If necessary sand the surface after cleaning and/or stripping (80 grit paper).

Anti-skid versus anti-slip, what's the difference? Anti-slip is a pavement surface's resistance to slipping commonly associated with Pedestrian traffic, whereas, Anti-skid is a pavement (or road) surface's resistance to inducing vehicle skid.

To do that, try using chemical strippers specifically made for removing things like wax and anti slip coating from floors. This type of stripping product will help prevent unnecessary damage while also making sure no residue is left behind when you're done.

Drying Time

Allow to dry for a minimum of 16hrs @20°C between coats. Allow to dry for a minimum of 48hrs@20°C before subjecting to heavy traffic. Full cure is achieved in 5- 7 days@20°C.

While no coating is perfect, our 100% solid epoxy option is an excellent choice for any garage floor. Epoxy coatings are thicker but have a shorter working time, so if you're a beginner DIYer, we recommend polyurea, a thinner, UV-resistant coating that is easier to work with.

Non-slip Strips

These decking grip strips are usually screwed or glued down using a specialist adhesive, directly into the wood of your deck or outdoor steps and applied at regular intervals. These are a quick and easy solution for improving safety on slippery timber decking and steps.

Which is better decking oil or decking protector? ›

We often recommend an oiled finish for decking over surface sealers as oils are easier to apply, maintain and repair over time. With any and nearly all decking finishes, good maintenance is the only way to upkeep the protection and a top up annually or bi annually will prevent more work in the long run.

The downside of using an oil is that while it will offer protection, it won't cover up damaged wood or change the 'look' of existing decking. Oils provide a translucent finish and even with tinted oils, the natural texture and grain of wood will still be apparent.

Common Methods Used to Make Wood Less of a Slip Risk

People often use a variety of methods to make wood less slippery, all having varying levels of success. Different methods include chicken wire, anti-slip paint, anti-slip tape and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) strips.

No matter what surface you apply it to, it prevents falling and slipping. This is regardless of whether the surface is wet or dry. Opting for this product is one of the most effective ways of achieving long-lasting surface resistance effects.

Slips, trips, and falls are among the most common causes of workplace injuries. By applying anti-slip tape to high-risk areas, such as staircases, ramps, or slippery floors, you can significantly reduce the chances of accidents and promote a safe working environment.

By definition, sealers are temporary and will last approximately 1-1.5 yrs. In high traffic areas, the plastic shark grip will not last half that.

Anti-Slip Concrete Coating
