Maybe its just my area, but I seem to be seeing more and more pricing on FB marketplace of “$1234”, only to open it and see stuff like “make offer”, “looking for” or some ridiculously high price.

I sort of can’t believe people are doing this. It worked on me for about a day to get me to open ads I normally wouldn’t.

Now it just po’s me and I go right past the ad, even if its something I might be interested in.

Can’t believe people think this bs works….if your have a price in mind, post it. If its too high, I won’t waste your time nor you mine.

Oh well, I’m just ranting I guess.

Just for fun

I very seldom go to Facebook Market place. Facebook in its self is a PITA.

I guess I should check out the market place. I have a couple things to sell, maybe I should start there.

I dislike Facebook, but their market place is actually a great place to find stuff... A lot more listings than craigslist which is what I primarily used before.

I refuse to join, but the wife has a facebook account so I can just use that!

I think $1234 is a code for something other than a listed price. I see it on a lot of different sites. It covers things like Make offer, best offer, wanted, and a few others.
If some one does not list a price I will start a low ball assuming they are hiding something. Sometimes the make offer means that the price they want is so high that they are embarrassed to list it. When they add in the "I know what it is worth, I still low ball them, Since they know what it is worth they also know they want to much.

You have to play the game.

Hmm, has it worked for you? I guess I’m not a haggler. Either it’s fair or I just pass and don’t engage. About half the time I can’t get anybody to respond on CL anyway.

I also see things like 12345, 123456789, etc, so doubtful its a “code“ for anything other than “I’m an a-hole so bid against yourself and give me more than its worth”.

These people know what they paid for it and they know what they want for it. So just say it. They’re really just fishing for a sucker IMO.

I’ve got no time to play games. Games are for children. This is business, not playtime.

Don’t want to deal straight up? I‘ve got no time for you because if you’re going to be greasy from the get go, the rest of the deal will probably be effed up too.

Tell me what you want, I’ll tell you what I’ll pay and if we can’t come to terms the deal is over and we both go on about our business.

full stop.

So I just scroll on past, whether I’m interested in the item or not. Potential buyer lost because they’re fishing for a sucker and not much else.

Theres nothing on marketplace, kijiji, craigslist etc that my life would be any worse without. They can go play games elsewhere, I’m not biting….

I think it’s just laziness: many times you’ll see $1 or the wacky numbers when they are selling multiple items and don’t want to make multiple listings.
