Hello. Please help me out. The audio of my computer is broken. The background music is louder than the foreground music and dialogue. Shouts are quiet and normal talking is loud. All audio including games, youtube videos, movies, the whole computer is affected. I'm not a tech person and this computer is not even a month old. Unfortunately, the store that build the pc only gave me a one week warranty for everything so if I go back there, then I have to pay for the checkup/repairs again. I tried googling for the fix and I did everything I can but no luck. Sound effects are already disabled. System restore didn't help because windows deleted the old restore points. I tried updating and reinstalling realtek drivers but didn't change anything. I tried 3 trs headset and 1 with usb connector. All experiencing the audio problem. I used windows 7 before upgrading and everything's fine back then. Sorry for the bad english.

Check your audio settings, such as "Mixer", "Effects", etc. Many times there are "3D Audio" settings or something similar, that will cause background sounds to appear much louder. Also, if your sound card has different "surround sound" options/settings that could cause a problem as well. Make sure your card is on "stereo".
Also, check your Windows audio/mixer settings...
Control Panel
Hardware and Sound
Sound
Click on your Audio Device
Click on Properties
Click the Enhancements tab. Check your settings.

Thanks for the quick reply. Surround sound is disabled. Sound effects/enhancements are already disabled.
Make sure your card is on "stereo".
Can't upload an image but speaker setup is already set to stereo since day 1.

I'm sad to see that this is 3 years old and still has no solution. I don't even know if these accounts are active. And there is still someone looking at this, reading, hoping for solution, then finding a unsolved problem. Anyways, I have the solution.
Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Click on your Audio Device -> Click on Properties-> Click the Enhancements tab
Uncheck the Voice Cancellation box. There, problem solved.
You may be thinking what does Voice Cancellation have to do with this? Well guess what? The person who named it "Voice Cancellation" is just stupid. Read the description of it.Voice Cancellation doesn't cancel outside voices like you expect (like all those other cool devices). This thing cancels the INSIDE voice. The description says, "Mutes vocals for full Karaoke experience. ". So, it's basically karaoke version. Why is it there? I don't know. So, if you wanna sing karaoke, you gotta go ALL THE WAY TOControl Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Click on your Audio Device -> Click on Properties-> Click the Enhancements tab FOR NO REASON! YOU CAN'T JUST TOGGLE IT FROM THE TASK BAR. LIKE WHO EVEN INVENTED THAT?!
Anyways, there you go. The solution for those reading this at 3am trying to figure out what is going on with your pc.
Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Click on your Audio Device -> Click on Properties-> Click the Enhancements tab
Uncheck the Voice Cancellation box.

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Click on your Audio Device -> Click on Properties-> Click the Enhancements tab
Uncheck the Voice Cancellation box.

What brand and model is your computer? A lot of them come with audio enhancement software that has its own control panel and doesn't appear in the Windows sound settings. My laptop has two different programs that are both unaffected by the normal method to disable enhancements. If you disable enhancements in the Windows sound settings, the other enhancement software is still active.

I tried that but the voice cancellation was already unchecked, still the background noise was still much louder than the actual voice and if I put my volume up, it feels like my ears were about too burst because of the background noise but the voice was still too quiet, I'm thinking its my earphones that have the problem but I'm not sure
