Breeding pets (2)

Breeding pets (referred to in-game as Sparking pets) is a feature on Webkinz Next. It allows a player to choose two of their pets and breed them to get a baby.

About[]

To breed a baby, go to the Adoption Center, and then click the machine that is in front of the purple curtains. Next, choose two pets. The pets must each have at least one spark. It costs eighty diamonds to create a baby pet. After you click the button that says Use Sparks, your baby will be bred.

How It Works[]

Three traits are inherited directly from the baby’s parents— the rest are either based off of similar features from a parent’s “possible gene pool”, or entirely random (such as the rainbow flairs).

Body color is a special case. It is either inherited directly from a parent, a different shade of a parent’s body color, or picked randomly from every possible body color for the baby’s species. Each of these has a 33.3% chance of occurring.

Inheritance also seems to take “grandparent” pets into account. For example, if two Orange Tabby Cats have two babies, one purple and one blue, and a baby is Sparked from those two offspring once they’re grown up, the third-generation baby will have a higher chance of being orange.

Unless a special redemption pet like the Rainbow Unicorn is created, if two different pet species are bred, the baby has a 50/50 chance of having each parent’s body shape.

Sparking is based primarily on luck— aside from picking the parents, there is no other way to influence the baby’s features. Contrary to popular belief, it does not matter which parent pet is selected first.

When the special redemption pets were first released, players were always forced to receive them if Sparked, which resulted in a lot of unwanted duplicates. However, this was soon changed- now, if one already has a type of special pet, such as the Rainbow Unicorn, if another Rainbow Unicorn is Sparked, the player will be given the option to either keep the duplicate, or receive a random-genetics pet like normal.
