Bruce Willis, Randall Emmett's History Through the Years: Timeline (2024)

Fifteen years of history. While Bruce Willis has taken a step back from acting after his aphasia diagnosis, he had worked on more than 100 films — including many with producer Randall Emmett.

“I’ve been on 15 movies of Bruce and I never got nervous once,” Emmett recalled to ComingSoon.net in August 2021. “When he showed up for the first time [onMidnight in the Switchgrass, my directorial debut], for me to have to really give him a vision and direction, I [felt] butterflies. It was like starting over.”

He added: “But he’s a friend and he was so generous and wanting to do whatever I needed him to do. He was great. He was fun. Everybody loved working with him. He’s Bruce Willis. It just doesn’t get any better.”

Despite a seemingly amicable working relationship, theDie Hardactor’s bond with Emmett made headlines in June 2022 whenLala Kent allegedthe movie producertold herthat he knew about Willis’ health concerns before it became public knowledge. (Emmett has denied her claims.)

“I can’t do this anymore,” Give Them Lala founder — who broke off her engagement to Emmett in November 2021 — recalled her ex-fiancé telling her via phone call, per aLos Angeles Timesreport. “It’s just so sad. Bruce can’t remember any of his lines. He doesn’t know where he is.”

The Germany native’s attorney, Martin Singer, responded to the accusations at the time, telling the newspaper that Willis continued working after receiving his neurological diagnosis “because he wanted to work and was able to do so,” like many individuals who have similar conditions.

Willis previously announced his acting retirement in March 2022, sharing a social media statement that was posted on daughter Rumer Willis’ Instagram page. “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Rumer wrote in a joint statement alongside her sisters, Moore and Heming Willis. “As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

Emmett — who shares daughter Ocean with theVanderpump Rulesstar — later praised their friendship in a sweet social media tribute.

“He is a terrific actor and legendary action star, an incredible father, and a close friend,” the Florida native gushed via Instagram that March. “I fully support Bruce and his family during this challenging time and admire him for his courage in battling this incredibly difficult medical condition.”

The twosome have worked together on nearly 20 projects, including Emmett’s directorial Midnight in the Switchgrass. After wrapping the Megan Fox-lead picture, Willis inked a three-picture deal with Emmett’s Emmett/Furla Oasis in June 2021, per Deadline.

“Randall is very proud of the work he and Bruce Willis have done over the last 15 years. In every single movie they have done together, Bruce enjoyed being on set, playing golf, going to dinners, and communing with the crew,” a rep for the producer told Us Weekly in June 2022. “If Bruce had not wanted to be on set, he would not have been there. Willis is one of the greatest actors of his time and was sought after by multiple production companies until his recent retirement. Randall counts him among his closest friends.”

Despite working together for many years, Emmett was still in awe that Willis agreed to join his directorial debut.

“As a director, it was like the first time I’ve ever worked with him. So I really, really was grateful that he did this for me,” Emmett told ComingSoon.net in 2021. “He did it for me at a number that I could afford because if he had done it for his regular number, I definitely could not have afforded him. So I was also grateful that he supported my first time filmmaking.”

In June 2022, the Irishman filmmaker allegedly told Kent that he knew Bruce had been struggling to complete their project. Emmett, for his part, denied that he was aware “of any decline in Mr. Willis’ health,” per a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

“Bruce will always be a part of my family,” Emmett — who shares daughters London and Rylee with ex-wife Ambyr Childers — wrote via Instagram in March 2022 after Willis’ aphasia battle made headlines.

Willis’ attorney clarified Emmett’s remarks in a statement to the Los Angeles-based newspaper, noting that the Death Wish actor was capable of remaining on set.

“Because Mr. Willis appeared in those films, they could get financed. That resulted in literally thousands of people having jobs, many during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Singer’s statement concluded.
