Can't unlock your Android device (2024)

Erase your phone

Important: These options erase all data stored on your phone, such as apps, photos and music. If you know the PIN or pattern of the device at the time of backup, you can restore data that's backed up to your Google Account.

Option 1: Erase your phonefrom another device

To secure or erase an Android device, make sure that the device:

  • Has power
  • Is connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi
  • Is signed in to a Google Account
  • Has Find My Device turned on
  • Is visible on Google Play

Option 2: Reset your phonewith its buttons

Reset your pattern (Android 4.4 orlower only)

  1. After you've tried to unlock your phonemultiple times, you'll see 'Forgot pattern'. TapForgot pattern.
  2. Enter the Google Account username and password that you previously added to your phone.
