Oaklee’s mom, Mary, took her kids to the Cirque du Soleil: Kurios show at Navy Pier. Here’s her report.
Catch it if you can! Cirque du Soleil: Kurios is a sensory journey into the imagination. All the elements of the circus- pleasantly heavy on the WOW factor and beautifully executed. Kids of all ages came to the 4:30pm matinee show we attended. I’m sure each would have a different interpretation of the spectacle. Personally I think it would be best enjoyed by those ages 6 and older only because it relies on common themes, not a lineal plot line. Disclaimer: My 10-year-old thought a couple of the characters could be a little scary but not enough that he had to look away. My 12-year-old commented on the element of suspense that might make some spectators nervous. They both raved and said it was so much more than they expected to see. It’s one of the true joys of parenthood to watch your kids loose themselves in the magic of imagination. I have nothing but Bonus points to share about this experience!
1. Bonus: Interactive. Arrive early and be treated to a short backstage walk with an opportunity to go across the stage. Go to door 8 and ask the attendant about the bridge. Wear closed toe shoes or you won’t be allowed on the “tour.”
2. Bonus: Patron Friendly. There are Ice Mountain refill stations in the lobby tent.Bring your own water bottle. There were ample restrooms, the cleanest portable bathrooms we have ever experienced! And United Center has plenty of close parking ($25).
3. Bonus: The Tent. The Grand Chapiteau created a most magical atmosphere for the setting. The air-conditioned tent was extremely comfortable even on a 90 degree day! My daughter wanted her sweater about half way through the first act.
4. Bonus: Just for kids. Complimentary, comfy booster seats for the vertically challenged.
