Claire’s pregnancy

I’m binge watching Outlander and I’m confused. In season 2, Episode 1, Claire is now back in the present. She doesn’t look pregnant at all. In the past, Season 2 , Episode 6, she is REALLY pregnant. Someone please help me understand what’s going on. Thanks.

I visited Culloden Moor this past summer and it is really depressing....it was genocide, pure and simple

@Lashawngravessped531 :

All of J+C's machinations in Paris are done in an effort to prevent the coming slaughter at the Battle of Culloden. At this point in the story, they believe the best way to accomplish that is to do whatever they can to prevent Charles Stuart from gaining financial support for his rebellion.

When they learn of CS's ship, they remember how quickly the Comte St. Germain's ship (in episode 201) got torched just because Claire confirmed that a crew member had small pox, so they want to replicate that – and in so doing, cost CS a lot of money, as well as make him look less attractive as an investment to other potential backers.

As for Sandringham, Claire blackmailed him in Season 1 in order to persuade him to deliver a petition of complaint which would ultimately secure Jamie's pardon (for crimes which BJR accused him of). He said he would help, but then somehow BJR got hold of the petition (I think he burned it, cheeky bastard). Claire holds Sandringham responsible for what happened to Jamie at Wentworth, and Sandringham probably resents being blackmailed – and by a woman to boot. There's no love lost between them.

Re: Mary Hawkins: Yes, Claire wants to make sure nothing interferes with Frank's future existence, so she believes BJR must be spared until after he has had a child with Mary.

La Dame Blanche, I am so impressed by you right now. You have explained this like you know these people personally. You must be a history professor and a writer. I fully get what is going on now! While I realize this is historical fiction, if you were my history teacher, I would have been able to make deeper connections to what was going on-in terms of wars mentioned etc. I can’t believe that young girl will end up marrying that beast-BJR. I hope you will still be around to clear things up for me in the future, because I try to watch every night. I do pay for it the next morning, however.

@Lashawngravessped531 I'm very flattered but I'm just someone who's read these books an embarrassing number of times 😂 and has a passable recall of the show. Happy I could help, though –and welcome to the fandom!

Hello, Ladame Blanche. Please help me understand why Prince Charles wants to help the British army? Why is PC upset that Dugall is killing the British soldiers? Also to what position has Jamie appointed Dugall? Thank you.

One more thing: The Scott’s weapons are broad sword/daggers (5th century B.C. style); why don’t they have guns, like the English? Thanks and happy holidays!

You did!? Wow. No efforts made to reconstruct? Guess it needs to stay the way it was left for the sake of history.

@Lashawngravessped531 :

Charles didn't just believe his father, James Stuart, was the rightful ruler of Scotland (by divine right) – he intended to rule all of the kingdoms, including England. So, he did not intend to decimate the government troops (whom he viewed as his father's subjects, as well as the Jacobite Scots), but to dominate them militarily and ultimately depose King George II.

Re: Dougal's position: I would have to watch the episode again. In the book Dougal is not under Jamie's command, and I can't remember how the adaptation managed that one.

As for the weapons, I'm not a historian, nor do I know if the TV show/books portrayed it accurately (a brief look at the Wikipedia article indicates that the image of the Highlander carrying the primitive sword and targe may not be the entire truth; in fact many officers may have had firelocks), but I think the idea is to show that at least parts of the Jacobite army were armed only with the weapons that the men had been able to bring with them from their homes, which would have included anything from antiquated swords to farm equipment. Again, I don't know if that is historically accurate, but that at least appears to be what the show intended.

La Dame Blanche, thank you. I see now that Bonny Prince Charles is a sneaky, selfish ruler.

What do you think?
