Coachella Fashion Dos and Don'ts for the Ladies: what to wear to Coachella! - Grimy Goods (2024)
After two long years, Coachella is back! Coachella 2022 will take place across two weekends on April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022 at the Empire Polo
It’s 2022 Coachella Fashion time! Coachella is underway and while you get amped for the annual pilgrimage to the desert, how about we help you out with your Coachella fashion. If you’ve been asking yourself “what should I wear to Coachella?”we’ve created a very helpful (and very blunt) Coachella fashion Dos and Don’ts for the ladies. Don’t worry men, we also have some Coachella fashion tips for you guys!
It’s all about function meets fashion, ladies.Check it out below!
1. DO go easy on the makeup. It’s an all day summer festival! That calls for glowing natural looks, but unfortunately, not every human is blessed with flawless and healthy skin (and that’s okay). Regardless, unless you’re going for dripping, melty, makeup look — because those layers of foundation and smokey-eyes WILL melt off your face — try a light layer of camera ready BB cream with SPF, followed by some hydrating perfect powder (this stuff is AHHHMAZING).And don’t forget to keepthat light look locked with primer and some makeup setting spray. We love this onebecause its long lasting with aloe vera.Trust, you’ll need that aloe element at Coachella.
4. DON’T wear heels or flip flops to Coachella. If you’re going to wear heels to Coachella, you’re going to be in pain and more than likely twist your ankle, once your heel gets stuck in the polo field (especially near the DoLab … ooooh it can turn into a mud swamp there).
Most people think flip-flops make perfect sense at Coachella since it’s hot and grassy, but do you really want to have dirty cave-man feet? Not to mention stepping in festival porta-potty slime, and getting stepped on by the girl wearing five-inch stilettos (this happened to me at Coachella 2006 and she broke my toe nail… it was painful). BUT, if you must must wear flip flops, wear these.
5. DO show some skin and wear a basic sun-dressjazzed up with some jewelry and killer boots. Or perhaps you want the flexibility of aboho crop-toppaired with someadorable jeanshorts,or the cutest rompers EVER!). You might as well soak up that desert sun and work on your summer tan while battling the outdoor Coachella heat. Just be sure to wear sunblock (this stuff is the best) and to pack a lightweightjacket and / or leggings for nightfall.
6. DON’T wear tights or leggings during the day without any panties. It sometimes reaches 100 degrees at Coachella. Do you really want sweaty-swamp-crotch?
7. DO style your hair up in braids and ponytails paired with dangly earrings. We’d all love to wear our hair down and get that messy summer look, but sometimes you just can’t rock it. With all the sweat your head will be releasing from the beating sun, you’ll probably be better of with an updo. Spice up that updo with some outrageous earrings. We love these and these.
8. DON’T wear fake jewelry. If you’re not going to rock the sterling silver, rose gold or real gold, don’t attempt sporting an array of Forever 21 rings across your hands. You’ll turn green once you sweat and appear to be transforming into a Zombie. We love the unique jewelry creations by Black Willow Jewelry and Mojo makes some pretty dope rings. Both are perfect for your Coachella haute looks.
9. DO wear underwear. As mentioned earlier, it’s super hot at Coachella, you don’t want swamp crotch! I can’t imagine how nasty those late night Coachella hook-ups would be! Get yourself some cute cotton booty shorts to wear under that tiny dress or a hot seamless thong(that won’t ride up)to wear under your shorts.
9. DON’Twear a g-string under your very short dress, unless you’re comfortable with flashing cheeks 24-7. Booty shorts or a cute full-butted underwear look cute and are more cozy.
10. DO prevent boob sweat! Yes, ladies if you have them knockers, you know what I’m talking about: that awful line of sweat beneath your breasts imprinted in your new tanktop, yeah, it happens. Those sweat drops just run down that cleavage river and around your boobs, only to fall right under them and soak your shirt. The struggle is real and I personally know all about it.Check out our 4 Ways to Avoid Boob Sweat at Music Festivals.
11. DON’Twear any onesies. Not only will you look lame, but can you imagine how sweaty and stinky you will get? And especially don’t ever wear a gold lamé onesie. Anything lamé will make your Coachella sweat stick to you like glue, your skin will not breathe and you will smell like a homeless person’s private parts. DON’T DO IT.
12. DOpack a handkerchief or scarf! Coachella can get super windy and create some very unpleasant dust storms. Unless you want to wake up with some painful dust boogers lodged in your nose, please get a hanky! It doesn’t have to be abnormally huge like this guy’s, but perhaps something more like this gal’s. There are plenty of cute colors to choose from.
Coachella fashion doesn't really have any rules, anything goes – but be prepared for a lot of skin and free-love kind of fashion with people looking for refuge from the blistering heat. Use a capsule wardrobe to pack light but create many outfits.
Yet aside from the music, Coachella comes with its own unique dress code. Not official in any capacity, the Coachella dress code is made of "bohemian and hippie outfits" that pay tribute to Woodstock. Another important part of the Coachella fashion is accessories.
"When planning outfits for Coachella and Stagecoach, keep in mind that the heat and dust in Indio can get intense! Leave the high heels at home – go for sturdy, durable boots and sneakers that are stylish while letting you dance all weekend long."
You can't go wrong with a hot weather-ready tank or smocked crop top, denim shorts, a crossbody bag and comfy sneakers, as seen at past Coachella festivals on Kendall Jenner, .
If you're going to wear heels to Coachella, you're going to be in pain and more than likely twist your ankle, once your heel gets stuck in the polo field (especially near the DoLab … ooooh it can turn into a mud swamp there).
According to Coachella's official website, backpacks, purses, handbags, totes, and fanny packs are permitted in the venue as long as they are no bigger than 20″ X 15″ X 5″. Bota bags and wallets without chains are also allowed inside the festival grounds.
Bags made of a clear material, not exceeding 14″ x 14″ x 6″ in size, and no more than 2 pockets. Small clutches/purses/wallets are permitted provided that they do not exceed 4.5″ x 6.5″ with or without a handle or strap.
Long shower lines – if you arrive during peak hours be prepared to wait 1-2 hours to get clean. We recommend showering at night if you're willing to leave early. The majority of showers open at 7 AM and close at 7 PM. There are limited 24 hour showers available.
DON'T: attempt to wear suede, fur or leather. They will not work well with heat, rain or spilt drinks. A festival is just not the time or place for heavy layers so maybe keep these fabrics for your accessories like bags. DON'T: even try and wear anything with a heel.
While you'll be sweating in the sun in the daytime, remember that Coachella is in the desert, aka it'll get really cold at night. While you may think the crowd will protect you from the cold and you'll be fine in your little summer outfit, when you're waiting in line to get back hold, you'll wish you brought a jacket.
Overall, we recommend trying to stick to a sneaker or boot. Below, we picked out the best festival shoes for men and women. From sneakers, to boots and sandals, you should be comfortable and set for a long day at the festival of your choice.
What shoes do you wear to Coachella? The best shoes for Coachella have to be comfortable, fashionable, and versatile. Boots are a great choice because they offer support and can be worn with tights or dresses. I recommend ankle boots because they're so easy to slip on and off at the end of the day.
If we could describe Coachella it's a mix of little indian, bohemian and rock star. Think flower crowns, tattoos, music, teepees, dream catchers, fresh fruits, soft colours, feathers, ribbons, ice cream, balloons, pool parties and food trucks. Making it an ideal and versatile on trend theme for your next kid's party.
A medium backpack should be no bigger than 18”x13”x8.5” when fully packed. Bags will have to fit into a box of that size, similar to the system used to check the size of carry-on luggage at airports. If the bag doesn't fit in the box, you won't be allowed inside the Venue.
“It's boiling hot in the day and freezing at night and I think people always forget how cold it gets at night,” she says to TZR. “You really have to have a jacket, even if it's really hot during the day. But you always have a bikini in your bag [too], so you have to be prepared for both ends of the spectrum.”
First things first, what's the best bag to bring in to Coachella 2022? A crossbody purse, belt bag, or backpack is going to give you the best fashion and function. You will want your hands free for dancing, holding a drink, and/or making out with that hot band member you met sneaking backstage.
Dehydration is serious business. Drink water on the way in and use the empty bottle at free refilling stations around the venue. You can bring in empty plastic (non-metal) bottles 40 ounces and under, according to the Coachella FAQ.
The festival provides free water, but bottled water costs $2. A water bottle is an absolute must. Get one with enough capacity to get you through a few sets so that you don't spend all day in line. I also bring Nuun electrolyte tablets to add to my water.
Tickets cost $429 for general admission for the weekend, and that's just the beginning. Because Coachella is at the Empire Polo Club, two hours outside Los Angeles, you have to factor in transportation, parking, lodging, and more. Money's Megan Leonhardt estimated the typical cost to be $2,347 in 2018.
You can technically bring in any water bottle to Coachella as long as it's empty and not made of metal, but remember you're in it to win it, so treat yourself to CamelBak's hydration belt.
What Are The Requirements For Stadium Bags? Below is a summary of the NFL, NCAA & PGA Tour clear bag policy guidelines. Clear stadium bags must not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. No hardware or decorations are permitted to conceal the bag, since the purpose is for security to easily see through it.
A: Yes, each yurt will have a private restroom and shower assigned to it. Only the guests in that yurt will have access to it. Q: Can I just buy the Artist passes alone? A: No, Artist passes can only be sold as part of Resort at Coachella packages.
The future is now! Goldenvoice installed 324 indoor, permanent bathroom stalls on the fest's Terrace section that are accessible to every lowly general admission ticket holder.
Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty. Coachella allows you to bring in empty water bottles to fill up. Bring one and keep it filled!
“As long as they're the right kind—and you don't look like you've just walked out of a sweaty HIIT class—leggings can be the perfect choice for a festival,” says Cat Meffan, a British fitness blogger who's always on the lookout for pairs that pass the Glastonbury test—i.e. go with her rain boots.
Yes, you can wear makeup at outdoor sleepovers—but choose carefully. If you're heading to a music festival, bare faces will be few and far between. Embrace a minimalist look if you want, but cosmetics aren't off-limits just because you're in the middle of nowhere.
Stories of "Festival Flu" are so common that Coachella has a forum with concert-goers lamenting their post-festival illness and sharing remedies to colds and flu in addition to the after-effects of too much fun.
Arriving at Coachella on the Thursday is a great idea. The campsite opens at 9am and it's the perfect opportunity to get in the festival mood first. You can get a good spot and check out the area where you'll be spending the next few nights too.
So we recommend a comfortable sandal with strong support and cushioning if you really want to go for it. Overall, our best advice would be sticking to closed footwear like a sneaker or boot.
We would recommend keeping the jeans nice and simple and then really going with some nice bright and colourful clothing on top to really make the outfit pop. Throw a hat on your head to keep the sun away or settle for a pair of sunglasses and you've got the perfect look.
The cool season lasts for 3.1 months, from November 20 to February 24, with an average daily high temperature below 76°F. The coldest month of the year in Coachella is December, with an average low of 41°F and high of 69°F.
Attendance is not cheap, with the lowest tier of general admission priced at $449, plus fees. Naturally, access to the festival's famous VIP attractions is even more expensive. As members of the media, we were granted GA access to the festival for free. However, we still managed to spend more than $5,000 on the trip.
You won't be able to bring in most types of bags, including backpacks and purses. The only bags allowed at the festival have to be made from a clear material and not exceed 13”x17”. But, fanny packs and hydration packs are allowed at the venue.
What is Coachella? The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music festival held over two weekends in Indio, just east of Palm Springs.
What is Coachella Fashion. Coachella fashion is synonymous with boho, free-spirited clothing that gives young and old the opportunity to play dress up for three days. If you want to know what Coachella fashion is, all you have to do is Google it.
DO: wear denim. Shorts, jeans, jackets and shirts, they're all welcome at festivals and make an easy go-to if you're unsure what to wear but still want to look cool.
“It's boiling hot in the day and freezing at night and I think people always forget how cold it gets at night,” she says to TZR. “You really have to have a jacket, even if it's really hot during the day. But you always have a bikini in your bag [too], so you have to be prepared for both ends of the spectrum.”
Based on the final data, the researchers recommend ditching denim by the time you reach 53 years old. It's not because you're making a fashion faux pas, though. In truth, it just becomes harder to find a pair that fits by that age.

Tier 1 pass prices for general admission start at $449 before fees, tier 2 at $474, tier 3 at $499, and finally, tier 5 for $549. VIP tickets to Coachella are also an option, starting at $929 and going up to $1,119.
