Coachella Sold Out in 40 Minutes; Passes Now Reselling for Over $1,100 - LA Weekly (2024)

[Note: This article is from 2015. Last we checked, passes for Coachella 2017 are still available.]

After Tuesday's lineup announcement, three-day passes for both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival went on sale Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Noon. By 12:40 p.m., they had sold out, making this year's Coachella the fastest-selling to date.

Predictably, resellers are already hawking Coachella passes at nosebleed prices. According to ticket market aggregator TiqIQ, weekend one passes are selling at an average price of$1,156.96, roughly a triple markup over the $375 face value. The “get in” price for weekend one passes (in other words, the lowest resell price available) is $703, an 87% markup.

Weekend two, by contrast, is a relative bargain. Three-day passes for Coachella's April 17-19 edition are going for just $801.34 on average, with “get in” prices as low as $613.

As outrageous as those resale prices may seem, this isn't (as of now) the most expensively scalped Coachella ever. That distinction still goes to last year's festival, when weekend one passes — likely driven up by hip-hop duo OutKast's first reunion show in years — resold at a dizzying average of$1,434.91.
