In colourimetry, we study women’s tones and nuances to group them into four types – Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. We continue our series with a detailed look at the defining traits for Autumn women. Autumn types are characterised by defined features and skin with shades of gold and toast brown. Which makes Autumn/Winter the perfect time of year for this skin type as their natural colouring goes perfectly with the leaves of the trees as they change colour and fall.

Take Our Traits Mini Test: Are You an Autumn?

Several skin tones are most closely associated with Autumn types. Typically Autumns will have skin types that range across peach, ivory, golden beige, dark beige, black, some Asian women with golden pigmentation fall into the Autumn category, though it’s quite rare.

Switching to the eyes, Autumns tend to have a tone of dark, golden or light chestnut, honey-coloured, golden green with brown flecks, light or olive green. Blue with tones of turquoise, aquamarine or grayish tones are also typical for Autumns.

Autumns’ natural hair colour (it’s all about your natural traits) usually falls into one of the following descriptions: red, copper, golden brown, light or copper blonde, light grey, chocolate brown, jet black with reddish or golden hues, golden white.

Most redheads are Autumn types, though some also fall into the Spring category.

Recognise If You’re an Autumn

There are a few ways to check if you’re an Autumn.

  • Look at the skin on your wrists. Do your veins have a slight greenish hue?
  • Then think about your cheeks. Chances are they don’t blush easily and usually stay the same colour as the rest of your face.
  • It’s very likely your hair has golden, or coppery reflections. You can even see it in grey hairs as their colour edges towards the yellow rather than the blue end of the scale.
  • Cold colours (those from Winter and Summer types) don’t work for your skin color and highlight your imperfections. Try on something that’s black or pastel pink and if they don’t work for your skin colour, you’re an Autumn. Choose foundations with a beige undertone, rather than a pink one.

    Mix Your Colour Palette

The Autumn colour palette is mainly made up of intense, warm colours with dashes of ochre, brown, hazel. There are also shades of blue, including turquoise or petroleum, which have yellowish tones. At the more dramatic end of the spectrum, you’ll find a range of orange reds ranging from dark apricot, through bittersweet red to dark tomato. Good neutral colours for Autumns include off white, beige, camel, brown and khaki green.

This season’s catwalks feature some great trends for Autumns, 70s’ style and prints, for example, are perfect. The browns, oranges and blues so prominent in 70s’ style will make Autumns glow.

Chains are big this season and they’re great for Autumn types. Go for necklaces, earrings, glasses, belts and even to adorn some of your pieces and give them a little lift.

Colour Your Autumn Season With Our Practical Tips

  • Mix basics and colours that work for Autumns
  • Choose from camel coats, beige jumpers, off white blouses, chocolate brown bags, military green parkas, classic trenches, brown tailored suits, leopard prints.

  • Avoid black, white, blue and pink.
  • These colours won’t work for you. But don’t panic, you can still wear them. Just keep colours from your palette close to your face (in a t-shirt, jumper or foulard). Then you can wear your favourite black coat, with a mustard jumper under it. You can reinvent the white shirt with a pumpkin-colored cardigan that lights up your face with a 70s’ print bandana. You can also use colours outside your palette on the lower half of your body only.

  • Add accessories to your look
  • Pieces in yellow, gold or wood are great for you Autumn types.

  • Earth-coloured make-up works great for Autumn women. Try highlighting your lips with an orange/red lipstick that highlights your natural colour.

I've got a wealth of knowledge on style guides and colorimetry! The article delves into seasonal color analysis, specifically focusing on the Autumn type. This method categorizes individuals into four seasonal types—Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring—based on their skin, eyes, and hair tones.

For Autumn women, defining traits include warm and golden undertones in their skin, ranging from peach to dark beige and even including some Asian women with golden pigmentation. Their eyes often exhibit tones of dark, golden, or light chestnut, honey-colored, or olive green, occasionally with blue tones. As for hair, Autumn types typically have shades of red, copper, golden brown, and even jet black with reddish or golden hues.

Identifying an Autumn type involves various checks: looking at the veins on the wrist (a slight greenish hue), observing the cheeks (not easily blushing), and noticing golden or coppery reflections in the hair. Cold colors like black or pastel pink tend not to complement their skin, and choosing foundations with a beige undertone is recommended.

The Autumn color palette comprises warm and intense hues like ochre, brown, hazel, and shades of blue with yellowish tones, including turquoise. Orange-reds are also prevalent. Neutral tones such as off-white, beige, camel, brown, and khaki green suit Autumn types well.

Fashion-wise, 70s-style prints and colors suit Autumns, as do accessories like necklaces, earrings, glasses, belts, and chain-adorned pieces. They can mix basics with colors that work for their palette, using accessories in yellow, gold, or wood. Earth-toned makeup complements their natural coloring, and they're advised to avoid colors like black, white, blue, and pink.

The article also hints at styling tips, suggesting ways to incorporate colors from the Autumn palette and mix them with items that fall outside their recommended range, all while still looking fabulous.

Understanding colorimetry, especially in the context of seasonal types like Autumn, helps individuals make informed fashion choices that complement their natural features, making for a confident and stylish appearance!
