In a world of fashion, we want every accessory to be on point. Our jewelry, shoes, make-up, bag! But what about your glasses? Oh no, you haven't thought of it and now you're scared they won't match.
Don't worry, we got you covered! While there is no fixed rule about which hairstyle should go with which glasses. Here are some guidelines to make sure the 'Oh no' is a 'Oh yeah, I look great in glasses'.
Curly hairstyles
If you have been told that curly hair and glasses aren't a friendly pair, take a cue from Oprah. We think she looks stunning in her transparent frames and curly hair!
Long voluminous curls when combined with heavy glasses can be quite overwhelming. So go for frames that are thin and light to balance out the volume of the curls. Round glasses with thin frames would look great with curlier hair.
If your hair has more of a wavy texture, most frames should suit you. We’ve often seen the cat-eye frames really bring out the angles of a layered haircut.
Tousled tie ups
By “tousled tie up” we mean one of those pulled back but half undone pony tails, or wearing the hair up with lots of bits hanging down.
These are generally much softer than the more sleek pulled back pony tails.
One word of warning – avoid pulling longer strands of hair directly onto the face as they can easily become tangled up with the hinges of your frame. This can be painful to say the very least.
To fringe or not to fringe
If you have a blunt straight fringe, you will notice that it creates a horizontal line at the top of your face. To soften the line, go for rounder frames with a lower nose bridge.
Since full fringes already hide part of the face, a thick bold pair of glasses will make the face look even smaller. So keep this in mind when choosing a frame.
Side swept fringes are a little more forgiving. Depending on the length, they can be safely tucked away behind the ear. This way they won’t interfere with your glasses or your view.
Parting the ways
The way you part your hair doesn’t really matter as long as there are no runaway strands obscuring your view. Loose strands can be really troublesome as they often end up caught in the hinges of the glasses.
Pulling at them will either hurt your hair or get tangled up with your glasses and we are sure you want neither.
All eyes on your frames!
If you really want your glasses to be the star of the show, wear them with your hair pulled back. Those tightly secured high buns, and the pulled back sleek ponytails are great to draw attention to your precious frames.
Straight combed hair tucked safely behind the ears, or a low loose plait. The idea is to get your hair away from your face so that the focus is on your glasses.
Pair this with a nude lipstick, minimal makeup and you’re good to go.
What about hair color?
Matching hair color with your frames is kind of like matching your shoes to your outfit. You want them to either stand out or blend in.
There is no fixed rule when it comes to picking the color of your frames. But, there are some that go better with certain hair colors.
Well, here’s a quick guide to help you.
Blondes – Since blonde is a lighter shade, black is a great contrast. But that’s not all. Almost all colors complement blonde hair. Tortoise shell glasses are also another great option. Pastel browns or even transparent frames would go well too.
Brunettes – With brunette hair, you can get creative and try out colors like burgundy and purple that many other hair colors cannot pull off. Browns and metallic frames are a good options as well.
Redheads –You would think that black would be your only option. But think again! Although black is the safest option for any hair color, brown, green or even royal blue would look stunning on red hair. If you find that you are feeling overwhelmed by the contrasting colors, try out transparent frames. They go well too!
Silver / Gray hair –Did you know that bright red frames go so well with silver/gray hair? It's a stunning combination you should definitely try. You could also opt for transparent frames, light blue or even burgundy.
The best way to see if something suits you is to try them on – try on loads of pairs and see which one speaks to you and which one makes you feel happy.
