How to identify a faulty starter?
Clicking Sound
One of the revealing signs of a faulty starter is a clicking sound while turning the keys in the ignition or pressing the start button. A Clicking sound usually indicates the loose battery terminals/a weak or dead battery. Always make sure that all ends are tight. Another reason for a clicking sound may be a faulty starter relay. If it is not transmitting enough current, it can produce clicking noises similar to dead batteries.
Lights but no action
Another sign for detecting a faulty starter could be the dashboard lights. If you see the lights come out of the instrument panel while going through the ignition phase, but the engine is not cranking up, it may also symbolize that the starter system is damaged. Always make note whether the lights on the instrument panel go dim when the key is in an engaged position. If so, the problem may be in the battery, not in the starter.
Smoke from your car
