French brands were among the most valued in the global cosmetics sector in 2022, in terms of brand value. That year, the most valued French cosmetics brand in the world was L'Oréal Paris, with a brand value of more than 11 billion U.S. dollars.Guerlain and Lancôme were in second and third place, with a brand value amounting to about 6.1 and 4.6 million U.S. dollars, respectively.
The beauty market in France
With a market value of about 12 billion euros, France is one of the largest cosmetics markets in Europe, preceded only by Germany. In 2021, France was also the European country with the highest number of small and medium-sized enterprises in the cosmetics manufacturing industry, approximately 1,173. In the following years, the revenue of the cosmetics market in France is expected to increase up to three billion U.S. dollars by the year 2027.
L’Oréal
Headquartered in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine, the French beauty company L’Oréal has established itself as the leader of the market. In 2022, the company’s consolidated sales experienced a notable increase and peaked at over 38 billion euros. L’Oréal Paris is one of its leading brands and it is very popular among consumers worldwide: as of 2021, L'Oréal Paris’ online share of Consumer Reach Points (CRPs) added up to over 18 percent, nearly three times more than in 2015.
