In this article I will go over a simple template for creating your own deletion letter that you can send in to credit reporting agencies (credit bureaus) to delete erroneous items from your credit report. This credit repair deletion letter template will be broken down into sections to better help you with the process.

Please note: using a “template” that’s already typed out can actually work against you in this process. Please either type out your own or, even better, hand write your own letter and keep it simple, yet detailed. This gives you a much higher chance of getting your letter through.

The Template

HEAD OF LETTER

The head of the letter should have your personal details. So simply write it out such as:

Full Name
Mailing Address
City, State, Zip Code
Name of Credit Bureau You’re Writing To
Credit Bureau Address
City, State, Zip Code of Credit Bureau

This is all you need. So be sure to find the credit bureau’s addresses to customize each individual letter.

TODAY’S DATE

This isn’t a big deal to some, but I suggest adding it to make them aware that you’re recording the date. They (legally) have 30 days to respond to this letter.

INTRODUCTION

This is a simple “To whom it may concern,” or even “Dear Sir or Madam”. Keep it simple and professional to let them know you’re serious. This is not required, just suggested.

PURPOSE OF LETTER

This is where you need to explain, in short details, why you’re writing the letter. You can write something along the lines of:

You have listed inaccurate items on my credit file and I need to have them removed as soon as possible. These inaccurate items (listed below) are affecting my credit score and livelihood. Please delete these immediately.

It should be that simple and straight to the point!

ACCOUNT DETAILS

The next part of the letter will need to give your personal details, such as your full name and your social security number. This allows them to verify specific information on each account.

Below are the details of the accounts in question.

Jonathan Doe
555-55-5555

Accounts:
1. Cell Phone, Account #43629008
2. Cable Bill, Account #632621
3. Credit Card, Chargeoff, Account # 00123334

LET THEM KNOW YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Now it’s time to let them know that you know your rights and you will take legal action to ensure that your livelihood is not affected.

Pleas be advised that the description of the procedure used to determine the accuracy and completeness of the information is hereby requested as well, to be provided within 15 days of the completion of your reinvestigation. Under federal law, you have 30 days to complete your reinvestigation.

This is saying that you need to know HOW they arrived at their conclusion of the investigation, as required by law.

END OF LETTER

I appreciate your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Full Name
Social Security Number

Keep it simple and include your details again, just in case.

Let’s Write a New Letter

Let’s go ahead and write a sample letter based on this simple template.

The letter:

John Doe
3884 Knott Ave.
Buena Park, CA.
92883

Experian
P.O. Box 4500
Allen, TX 75013

05/27/2014

To whomever it may concern,

I noticed that my credit report, pulled through your company, shows several accounts that do not belong to me. I believe you have them listed erroneously and I would like to have them removed immediately. Below are the accounts you have listed.

Name: John Doe
Social: 555-00-5555

Accounts:

1. NexTel, acct # 9939933

2. Plymouth, acct #0000000001

3. Hostess, acct #9999999

Please remove these accounts immediately. I understand that, by law, you have 30 days to complete your investigation of these errors. I trust that you will provide me with the procedure that you used to verify the accuracy of the information listed above.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

John Doe
555-00-5555

Now Send The Letter

I hope that you change your letter to ensure that you’re not sending the same thing I just wrote, as someone who is too lazy to read through this article will surely do the same thing. These bureaus are not stupid, or lazy. They also use automated systems to spot patterns, such as template letters that are copied and pasted from the internet.

Change the letter to ensure that it’s unique to your needs and hopefully you handwrite the letter as well!

Now it’s time to send it out to the proper CRA (Credit Reporting Agency).

EXPERIAN

Experian
P.O. Box 4500
Allen, TX 75013

TRANSUNION

TransUnion LLC
Consumer Dispute Center
P.O. Box 2000
Chester, PA 19022

EQUIFAX

Equifax Information Services LLC
P.O. Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374

If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments section. Good luck!
