Crown Royal XR (Red) The first edition of Crown Royal XR contained the final batch of aged whiskies from the legendary Waterloo distillery and is a very rare find – it is no longer in production.

Taste: Thick, almost saplike mouthfeel on entry, quite sweet maple taste, with a dose of cinnamon followed by fairly heavy oak char,vanilla, and more whisky like notes coming through on the finish. Pour about 2 fl oz (59 mL) into a whiskey glass, or roughly the height of two fingers. If you don't have a whiskey glass, any short glass tumbler will work.

According to the press release, it's their “signature rye mashbill,” distilled and blended sometime around the end of the George H.W. Bush administration or the beginning of the Clinton years, and left to age since then.

Crown Maple was established in 2010 in New York's Hudson Valley at Madava Farms, an 800-acre organic family farm owned by Robb & Lydia Turner and named after their two daughters, Madeline and Ava.
