Many of us are still working from home and, as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, we established some bad habits that we still haven’t shaken. One of them is not getting dressed or feeling the need to do so. Our favorite attire is our pajamas. Not only do we wear them to sleep in, but many of us also find ourselves wearing them throughout the day.
Social psychologists say what you wear can change your mood, the way you think, and the way you behave. “Psychologist Dr. Adam Gainsky says that enclothed cognition means clothes can put you in a different psychological state.” Changing into day clothes can impact your happiness and allow you to feel more in control. It helps to prepare for your day by keeping up with what used to be a normal routine.
While I was sheltering at home during the first three months of the pandemic, I never felt comfortable staying in my pajamas. I woke up, usually went straight to the bathroom like normal, and got dressed in different clothes from what I slept in, even if I was just moving to my living room sofa or dining room table to scout for grants to keep my business open.
We think, not just with our brains, but our bodies too. If staying in sweats or pajamas can negatively affect how you feel, then we can also use how we dress as a positive tool to feel more confident and happy!
