I like this post alot!
I am one of these people that does this, I can't explain why really.
Although I tend not to do a completely different colour, i'll wear say a colour, then add a glitter over the top of the ring finger. As sometimes doing all my nails can look a bit much, same as if i do a nail art design. But I always coordinate.
As for it being the ring finger - i've done this since I was really little, like 12 or something! I guess it's because I would do the middle finger as it's central 0- but then I don't want to be looking like I am swearing at people or anything!
Haha, but to be completely honest I don't know why I doit!!
I guess its just for fun!
Why paint all your nails one solid color when you can choose 2 or 3?! I do this all the time, I like the variety.
I think it just adds a fun twist to the nails. I do this a lot when I can't decide on a color.
It's the accent nail. Not sure who or why the ring finger waschosen.

I saw Beyonce sporting it a Today Show concert series on tv and I thought it was pretty cool. I do it to compensate for not wearing my wedding ring at the gym since I can't lift with iton.
I've always had accent nails at random over the years. Not just on my ring finger though, but on any nail I want.
Lol my boyfriend is perpetually confused by this. I rarely do a completely different color, and if I do it'll be something like all light blue nails with a navy accent nail, but I usually find myself doing a glitter accent nail. Probably because having all your nails decked out in glitter can be a little overwhelming, so I like to have just a nice littletouch.
I think it's just fun! I have a crazy glitter accent nail on with navy nails, I think it looks glamourous and it adds a certainsomething.
I do it a lot of the time because I can rarely choose one colour! I also like glitter over top of the ring finger and thumb sometimes! Also maybe subconsciously I want other people to notice my nails..Hahaha
Ooh @Dylan, those look great. That accent finger isfaboo.
Oh yea!!! I thought everyone used the ring finger as an accent nail once in a while. I've done tons of mani's with nail art on just the ring finger. Im not sure why its usually done on the ringer finger, but I think it looks right. I also remember doing little flowers on just my ring fingers when I was 10.lol
It's just an accent. I wouldn't do it personally because I don't think it looks right with my wedding ring lol
Thanks April! And @Jacqueline girrrrrl, you've got like, built in accent now, you don't need it;)
@Dylan Exactly=D
I personally don't like doing it - I tried it & it just didn't look complete to me. I barely ever use cream-textured nail polishes, always glitter or heavy shimmer. So adding accents to already very made up nails seems quite a lot tome.
I do it sometimes just to be different because although we all *sort of* know about it, a lot of people don't and it makes them stop and be like "What....?"haha

Oh I love my accent nails! I suck at nail art, so accent nails and gradients are the best I can do! I do it to spruce up an otherwise boring mani. Apparently this is a pretty popular one of mine, as beautylish has used it a couple times already! I have to laugh though, cause people give me weird reactions sometimes, and ask why I only have one nail painted that way! : ) whateves....I like it, and thats all thatmatters!
its really fun to do, especially for indecisive ppl like me. Why choose only onecolor?
Its the accent nail......I love them and did one for this weeks manicure! its something that can make a regular old manicure POP! gotta lovethat!
Women with higher testosterone levels have longer ring fingers. Adding another color makes it appearlonger.
I deiced to do an accent nail and he asked me if it had a meaning like those bracelets. I said no then he kept asking me other questions about it! I told him it means I'm a druggie (I'm NOT fyi). He just walkedaway.
It's said that if you paint a single fingernail with a different color it adds variety. The ring finger was chosen because... If you paint your middle finger its like swearing n people might feel offended, if you paint your index finger it means to point like index finger is used for pointing, if you paint your thumb its too different cuz You use them to type on your mobiles and just is too different, if you paint your pinky then it means to you know... Pinky or the little finger is indicated to mean the bathroom or toilet. Last was left the ring finger that doesn't have any significant meaning. So therefore people or girls apply nail paint or nail polish just on their ringer finger.
But if you dnt care what others think... Then put your favorite color on any nail... Enjoy what you wanna do... Not what others wantto...
Actually it first was seen on the Animated Series 'sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century'. October 30 1999. The Adventures of the Sussex Vampire Lot.Little girls copied the show then their big sisters and moms liked it so they started to do it.Nothing hidden ,no silly secret meanings it was just copied off a kidshow.
