Though we missed the last tour by fifteen minutes, the grounds were beautiful and we were still able to "dip" a bottle in wax (in the gift shop). Would encourage checking time of tours, if interested.

After visiting some of the smaller, more boutique distilleries, Makers Mark was a bust. I booked it because I had heard so many good things about the tour and grounds. Grounds didn't disappoint, but tour certainly did. Group was huge - hard to always hear the guide. He was very good, but we saw so little of the operation because the distillery was closed for maintenance, and the bottling house closed early because they ran out of bottles. The best part was the new underground barrel storage facility. Just unique really. Tasting was fine - but this and one other was at the bottom of the barrel for quality of bourbon. Major disappointment that we also didnt get to dip our own bottle as promised when I booked the tour. Considering we didn't see much of the operations AND didn't get the promised bottle experience, yet paid the same $12pp x 3 - I wasn't happy. I wouldn't return or suggest this tour to others - many more out there that are far superior.

Nice tour where they explain the process of maker's mark bourbon and their history. You get a sample tasting at the end and a chocolate.

Going to Makers Mark was my sole reason for making a long weekend trip to Kentucky. I had signed up for the Ambassador program 7 years ago and my "barrel" had been bottled and I was able to get some from my barrel if I wanted. Marketing ploy? Yes. Worth the trip? YES!! I now am the proud owner of 4 bottles with my name on them!!

In addition, I got the special treatment as an Ambassador and loved seeing all the improvements that have and are currently happening at the property! I especially loved seeing the new cold aging room specifically for Makers 46.

Everyone was friendly, helpful and informative. Austin was our tour guide and I believe she said it was her first tour, but you would never know!!!

I was especially happy when I was able to have a chance encounter with COO Rob Samuels! He and his son were gracious as I stole a moment of their time!

This was my second visit to Maker's Mark, having completed the Bourbon Trail a few years ago. I was fully expecting to have a great time at the Father's Day brunch and made the 2.5 hour drive with a friend. The grounds were pretty, the folks at the registration desk were nice, and the food was tasty (although the ticket price is on the pricey side at $75). Things went downhill after we were taken on an impromptu tour of the cellar where they finish out the MM 46 barrels. I asked a question about the cooling system and got 2 words out of the person showing us around I then asked another question and got 1 word out of him. Both times, he seemed uneasy and walked away. I wanted to think it was a mistake - but he seemed friendly enough to others, chit chatting and asking where they were from, etc. At the end, both my friend and I thanked him - to which he responded with the silent treatment. The interaction was bizarre, awkward, and frankly, offensive. I'm glad everyone else there was friendly but if the "tone is set at the top", I'm afraid I won't be surprised if this well-established institution faces tougher times in the future once the whisky/bourbon boom cools off. I, for one, will be going to other distilleries and making my purchases from friendlier places where they don't make you feel like second class citizens.
