After 12 seasons, Project Runway has it’s first African American winner. Chic and stylish contestant Dom Streater took the title after she blew the judges away with her “Retro Redux” collection. She describes her work as, “future as it was viewed by artists and writers, pre-1960s.”

The 24-year-old from Philadelphia was overjoyed and extremely humbled about winning.

“It’s a huge deal for me. I’m poor. I mean I’m working two jobs, people.”

Although she could never find a job in fashion she still pursued her dreams on the side, and her efforts have paid off big time. Her prizes for winning include a2014 Lexus IS 350, $150,000 cash, a chance todesign and sell an exclusive collection at Belk, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a $100,000 fabric allowance from Tide Pods, and a $50,000 styling contract with L’Oréal Paris. She started out working as a hostess and animal caretaker, but now she’s here.
