HOW TO MEASURE FOR DRAPERIES
IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED DRAPERY RODS
All measurements in inches
TO DETERMINE PANEL LENGTH
Measure from bottom tip of the rod to the floor. See A. Deduct 1" if you want your drapery to break on the floor. Deduct 1½" for floor clearance or add 1-2" for light puddle.
TO DETERMINE PANEL WIDTH
Measure the length of the drapery rod from one side of the rod to the other (excluding the finals/cap). See B.
ADD FULLNESS
To avoid draperies looking like a stretched sheet when drawn in add 2 times fullness (recommended). Multiply the width (B) by 2 for 2 times fullness or 1.5 for lesser fullness. Example: If your B is 80" wide, then 80"x2 =160". So each panel should be 80" wide. Email us at designer@barnandwillow.com
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET INSTALLED DRAPERY RODS
All measurements in inches
TO DETERMINE PANEL LENGTH
Measure from window top trim to the floor. See C. Your drapery rod should be placed 6"-8" above the top trim, so add 6"-8" to C. Deduct 1" if you want your drapery to break on the floor. Deduct 1½" for floor clearance or add 1-2" for light puddle.
TO DETERMINE PANEL WIDTH
For the best look, drapery rods should extend at least 8'' beyond the frame on each side. Measure the horizontal width of the window from trim to trim. See D. Add 8" on each side.
HOW TO MEASURE FOR ROMAN SHADES
All measurements in inches
TO DETERMINE INSIDE MOUNT
• Mounted within the window frame and has a clean look
• 2” minimum depth of window required to mount the roman shade
• If window frame (inside) isn’t deep enough, please select outside mount
STEP 1: MEASURE WIDTH
Measure the horizontal width of inside of the window frame (for inside mount) in 3 locations top, middle and bottom. This is the width of the roman shade
STEP 2: MEASURE LENGTH
• Measure the vertical height of inside of the window frame (for inside mount) in 3 locations left, middle and right. This is the length/height of the roman shade
Note: Sometimes windows are uneven at different places. So, for width of roman shade note down the shortest/smallest of the 3 (top, middle and bottom) measurements. For length, note down the longest of the 3 (left, middle and right)measurements.
For Inside Mount Roman Shade width and length dimensions, please measure frame to frame. Please do not make any deductions at your end as we will take necessary deductions into account. This helps ensure your roman shades will perfectly fit inside your window frame.

TO DETERMINE OUTSIDE MOUNT
• This is a great option when window isn’t deep enough for inside mount
• Hardware is mounted to the wall, closer to ceiling or on the moulding surface surrounding the window frame
• Gives a visual height to the window
STEP 1: MEASURE WIDTH
• Measure the horizontal width of the area you wish to cover. We recommend letting your roman shade extend at least 1”-1.5” on each side of window to avoid light seepage. So whatever is the width of your window from frame to frame, add total of 2”-3” to that.
STEP 2: MEASURE LENGTH
Measure the vertical height of the area you wish to cover. In outside mount style, when the roman shade is kept completely pulled up, it will cover about 10-12” of your window. So we recommend installing the roman shade at least 10”-12” above the window frame so it does not block the view when kept pulled up.
