Hello, everyone! Today I will be talking about the series 2013 $1 bill duplicate print run star notes. I just found one in my change and thought it would make for an interesting blog post, so here it goes!
As we all know, serial numbers on dollar bills are supposed to be unique. However, in 2013, the printing facilities in Fort Worth and Washington D.C. made some sort of a communication error and ended up making star notes with duplicate serial numbers.
How did such a thing happen? Well, in 2014 the Washington D.C. printing facility printed 3 star note runs for the New York âBâ district. They printed these runs of star notes:
B 0000 0001 * - B 0025 0000 * (October 2014)
B 0320 0001 * - B 0640 0000 * (November 2014)
B 0640 0001 * - B 0960 0000 * (November 2014)
Nothing weird or special about that. However, in 2016 the two printing facilities miscommunicated and the Fort Worth Facility printed these three runs of star notes for the New York âBâ district :
B 0000 0001 * - B 0320 0000 * (June 2016)
B 0320 0001 * - B 0640 0000 * (June 2016)
B 0640 0001 * - B 0960 0000 * (July 2016)
As you can see, some of these serial numbers overlap. This is not supposed to happen, making these star notes extra collectable and more valuable. To be clear, if your series 2013 $1 star note falls in these runs of serial numbers, your note is part of a duplicate print run:
B 0000 0001 * - B 0025 0000 *
B 0320 0001 * - B 0640 0000 *
B 0640 0001 * - B 0960 0000 *
So, because of this mistake are these bills more valuable? Yes! In fact, while a normal $1 star note sells for about $3, a duplicate print run star note typically sells for $15 - $20. There is a situation, however, where these bills can be worth much more than that. Only a few pairs of the same serial numbers have been put together. (For example, a note with the serial number B0695 0840 * from Fort Worth and a note with the same serial number from D.C.) No sets like this have been sold yet, but a set could be worth thousands of dollars.
Anyway, I just found one of these star notes! The serial number is B 0587 1011 *. Does anyone have the duplicate? Make sure to go through your change and star note collection to see if you have one of these bills. If you find one, make sure to post the serial number in the comment section. Maybe someone will post your duplicate and you can arrange to put the set together. Also look at this list of bills to see if anyone has your duplicate. https://www.thesilverpicker.com/zwproject
