Its attrition rate meanwhile fell to 4.7% in 2023 from 5.5% the previous year.

This fee can range from 0.5% to 2%. Advisors that charge a percentage usually want to work with clients with a minimum portfolio of about $100,000. This makes it worth their time and will allow them to make about $1,000 to $2,000 a year.
Edward Jones advisors and their culture are known for a specific setup, a specific type of trainee, and a small town emphasis. As the industry continues to adjust (most importantly adjusting to include bigger and bigger teams) the Edward Jones model is seen as outdated by some of their larger producers.
For instance – did you know that according to a study1 from Etrade Advisor Sales in 2019 – the average percentage of clients that leave during a given year is 20% within a year. And 25% within one-two years. Or - put another way - roughly one-fourth of new clients may leave within the first two years.
In 2023, 57% of the advisory firms we surveyed lost a valued employee they did not want to lose (while 36% said they fired someone). The overall turnover wasn't alarming, but such changes, as we noted before, can empty the lake over time. The total turnover in 2023 might be considered normal.
Keeping tabs on texts and messaging has been difficult for the industry, and fines have been mounting. Edward Jones is the latest firm swept up in the SEC's wide-ranging investigation into communications with clients via unauthorized personal devices.
