What is the MBTI ESFP profile? ›

ESFP (extraverted, sensing, feeling, perceiving) is one of the 16 personality types identified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. 1 People with ESFP personality types are often described as spontaneous, resourceful, and outgoing. The ESFP personality type is often referred to as "the performer" or "the entertainer."

ESFP stands for Extroverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving. According to John Hackston, head of thought leadership at The Myers-Briggs Company, ESFPs make up 6% of the population, and more specifically, 5.1% of men and 6.7% of women.

Foremost, an innate weakness to ESFPs is a lack of foresight due to a weak Introverted iNtuition (the lowest Jungian Function in the ESFP's cognitive stack). This can manifest in a disruptive lack of purpose in life, work, or education.

ESFP personality types sometimes have trouble meeting deadlines, and do not always finish what they start. They can get easily distracted.

About ESFP – 'The Performer'

ESFPs enjoy work that is independent, resourceful, and allows them to have plenty of hands-on involvement and see the results of their efforts. They are great communicators, collaborators, and team players. ESFPs make up 8.5 percent of the U.S. population.

Dynamic ESFPs let their passions and whims rule them, so it isn't too surprising they're reactive when it comes to anger. ESFPs are quick to react to anger and other emotions, even if they regret it later. But after their initial release of frustration, ESFPs will not dwell on the problem that incited their ire.

ESFP Weaknesses

Sensitive – ESFPs are strongly emotional and often vulnerable to criticism – they can feel like they've been backed into a corner, sometimes reacting badly. This is probably their greatest weakness, because it makes it so hard to address any other weaknesses brought to light.

Actually, yes. When it comes to being tactful and critical, one of the most insightful people I've met around my age group was an ESFP. As a mildly gifted individual, he cognitively felt like a jack-of-all-trades and could tap into his intuition and concrete thinking a lot — he seemed very comfortable with it too.

ESFPs should learn to be confident in their own abilities, even if others don't approve. They may feel drained by very analytical jobs that don't allow them to work closely with others. Spending too much time looking at facts and data or considering hypothetical scenarios is likely to exhaust and bore ESFPs.
