Every Overwatch Skin That is No Longer Available (2024)

Highlights

  • Overwatch 2 has a wide variety of skins, with a total count of 574 available, but some rare and highly coveted skins are no longer obtainable.
  • Skins like Pink Mercy, Zarya Alien, and BlizzCon skins have been removed due to controversy, exclusivity, or limited availability.
  • While some skins have made a comeback or can still be obtained through certain events, others remain rare and are being sold online for high prices.

Overwatch 2 has added a lot of cosmetics since it debuted in October 2022. While the first Overwatch had already amassed quite a collection of free and purchasable skins, the implementation of the Battle Pass system and in-game store has created a steady stream of content from Blizzard. Unfortunately for some, the free rewards in Overwatch 2 occur less often now that the loot box system has been discarded.

Still, there's no doubt that Overwatch 2 is now home to a wide variety of skins, with the official wiki counting 574 total as of today. Since the franchise began in 2016, there have been several skins that have been removed from the game or are no longer obtainable. The following includes those that were taken out due to controversy, Overwatch League or Contenders exclusives, and charity skins.

Pink Mercy Skin

The 2018 Pink Mercy skin is one of the most highly coveted skins in the game, and it's easy to understand why. The unique skin was only available for a few weeks and all proceeds were given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Since this skin was more than a recolor and supported a nice cause, Pink Mercy quickly skyrocketed in popularity. While there have been those who are hopeful Blizzard will re-release her one day, it has yet to happen. At the moment, Pink Mercy accounts for sale can set someone back several hundreds of dollars.

Zarya Alien Skin

The Zarya Alien Skin has become extremely controversial over the years, though it was once called one of the best Zarya designs. It's been a long-running joke for the Overwatch player base that Zarya almost always seems to be on the short end of the stick when it comes to receiving interesting skins. Unfortunately for those who liked the extraterrestrial design, Blizzard discontinued the skin after the former Overwatch League player whom it was designed for, Jay "Sinatraa" Won was accused of sexual assault.

Originally, it was meant to honor the 2020 San Francisco Shock team after they won their second championship, but after the allegations, it was quickly removed. Though players were offered credits as a refund, some opted to keep it. Due to these events, it's incredibly unlikely that the skin will ever resurface, and Blizzard has already stated it won't be making any more skins dedicated to Overwatch League MVPs.

BlizzCon Skins

BlizzCon is one of the largest gaming conventions in North America, as it has been held every year since 2005. For those who attended physically or had a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket, exclusive Overwatch skins have been available since 2016. The first year saw Bastion, followed by Winston, Demon Hunter Sombra, Illidan Genji, Tryanade Symmetra, and Raynhardt Reinhardt. BlizzCon-themed skins are limited to those who go to the event, but it seems others are recyclable since Demon Hunter Sombra made an appearance during the Halloween Terror event in 2019.

Widowmaker Noire Skin

The Widowmaker Noire skin is very rare, mostly due to how old it is. The sleek red and black arrangement for the sniper was first available to those who pre-ordered the original Overwatch title in preparation for the Spring 2016 launch. It did make a comeback in 2019 for players who pre-ordered the game for the Nintendo Switch, but it hasn't been seen since. Resellers appear to be posting the skin for between $175-$450 online for those still desperate to get their hands on her.

Brigitte Medic Skin

The 2022 Brigitte Medic skin wasn't immediately a fan-favorite for the community when it debuted, but it could only be acquired through different platforms which made it an uncommon skin. The white Support skin was a reward for the Overwatch League Midseason Madness event. Visiting the channel of a select group of Overwatch 2 Twitch streamers was the first requirement, but people would also need to gift three Twitch subs to the chat to get the skin. This would come out to around $15. Brigitte's Medic Skin was only available from June 29 to July 20, 2022, and has not reemerged since.

Widowmaker Kerrigan Skin

Even though Kerrigan Widowmaker was a recolor of the DPS hero's Nova skin, this version is actually rarer. In celebration of Blizzard's 20th Anniversary of StarCraft, the game gave away a Sarah Kerrigan Ghost skin between March 6 and April 3, 2018, for simply logging in. Some players have expressed their frustration with Kerrigan Widowmaker being a limited-time skin as those who didn't play during this time period, or missed it, have been unable to get her.

Overwatch League and Contenders Skins

The Overwatch League and Contenders teams have seen a lot of promotional skins over the years. Many of these could only be secured by watching streams on YouTube or Twitch, though others were available during promotional periods on the Overwatch League store. The Legendary Goat Brigitte skin from 2020 is one such example, as it was purchasable with tokens for just under two weeks. Other skins include but are not limited to Zen-Nakji Zenyatta, Flying Ace Winston, Thunder Doomfist, and all the gray-themed Overwatch League skins.

For those disappointed that many of these Overwatch skins are no longer available, there's always a chance that most of these designs could resurface. The Overwatch 2 Shop rotates weekly, adding new skins and often showcasing old favorites. In August 2023, both Pacific All-Star Mercy and D.Va skin reappeared, much to the surprise of several players, while Nano Cola D.Va returned in 2022 after having not been seen since 2018.

These skins were considered to be fairly rare, so it's very possible that given enough time players may have a chance to purchase skins they might have missed before. YouTube or Twitch drops also give out in-game cosmetics for watching streams. This makes these platforms an ideal place to obtain exclusive or formerly vaulted skins.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
