F7, F8, F9 Sitting Combination Advice. (2024)

Hi,

Well, you have roughly 2 months until the Sept’19 sitting and whichever paper you would like to go ahead with, you will be giving less than the recommended 16 weeks of preparation time.

However, if you are able to do long study hours then you will be able to cover the gap and can also keep sufficient time for practising questions (which is essential for that pass). This should not be a problem if you are a full time student.

On the contrary, if you are working and not a full time student, then this could be an issue. But then, you will have to give at least 2 hours during weekdays and full day during weekends.

Try your best to get done with the syllabus and learning before August starts so that you have the entire month of august for revision and question practise.

Let’s look at each paper in more detail:

F7 is a very technical paper where you have to study quite a lot of standards and need to remember their details in terms of calculation etc. It also has some(not much) analysis.

F8 is a more theory based paper where there is only a minute amount of calculation(just one small portion).

F9 is a sort of a mix. It has both numbers and theory. Both calculation and Discussion.

In terms of my own personal experience:

Syllabus wise, I personally found the syllabus of F8 less lengthy and easier to study compared to F7 and F9. While I had found F9 to be the most lengthy and difficult one among these 3 papers. (So I will surely agree with your concern of not having enough time for F9 by Sept).

That leaves you with whether you should give F7 or F8 in Sept…

Since I did these papers in order, I was able to develop some connectivity in these 3 papers which did help me in terms of understanding the concepts. And if you would see the syllabus and Study Guide for F7 and F8, there you will find a relation diagram which shows the link between one paper with other papers. Though the link between F7 and F8 is not very significant, it is recommended to give F8 after F7.

Also, I think doing F7 and F9 together would be a bit of an overload in terms of content that has to be learnt and remembered.

I know it is a tough call but I think it would be better if you go ahead with F7 for Sept. It goes without saying that this just my personal opinion based on my experience and the ultimate decision and choice is for you to make.

Hope that helps and all the best for whatever you decide to go with!
