What IS Rum Cake?
Rum cakes are generally associated with tropical islands. In the island tradition, fruit was added to cake and soaked in rum for several months. Modern rum cake is usually made without fruit but is made in different flavors. Traditional rum cakes may be drizzled with rum after baking or may be baked with the rum in the batter. Both are finished with a sweet glaze.
Island Treasures Gourmet Rum cakes are made with real rum added to the batter and glaze during the baking process, leaving less than ½% alcohol in a whole 2 lb cake. Almost all of the alcohol is baked away leaving a smooth, moist and full flavored cake that can be enjoyed by all ages. Our cakes are made with the finest ingredients ensuring consistency in flavor and quality.
Can I freeze my cake?
Yes! Some stores sell them frozen, but most sell them at room temperature. You can freeze a whole cake, or cut your cake into smaller pieces and freeze them. You can buy two large cakes, serve one right away, and freeze the other for a last minute hostess gift or unexpected company. A large cake will thaw on the counter in about three hours!
How long will my cake last?
Rum acts as a natural preservative providing a long “shelf-life” for our cakes. In the original, unopened packaging, the cakes will last for 5-6 months at room temperature, or a year in the freezer. Once opened, the large, 32 oz, cakes are best consumed within two weeks. Be sure to store it at room temperature on your counter or pantry, even after it has been cut. Refrigeration is not recommended as refrigeration tends to dry out the cake. If you don’t want to eat the whole cake right away, it can be frozen for several months. Some people like to cut the large cake into serving size pieces, individually wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them. When they want a treat, they pull one out and it will thaw within an hour or so!

If there is not a retail location near you, our cakes can be ordered on this website. You can have your order shipped to anybody, and we can even add a complimentary note, if you desire.
