Fashion Bug to Close (2024)

The plus-size chain will close down early next year.

Ascena Retail Group Inc., which last week completed its acquisition of Charming Shoppes Inc., has decided to shutter the Fashion Bug chain.

Fashion Bug was part of the umbrella of assets Ascena acquired in the Charming Shoppes purchase.

Ascena said Friday that operations for Fashion Bug will cease in early 2013. Charming closed 124 Fashion Bug stores in 2011.

Ascena also said it is exploring the potential sale of Charming Shoppes’ Figi business, which sells food and special gift products.

Ascena operates the Dressbarn, Maurices and Justice nameplates. Through the Charming Shoppes acquisition, it now also owns the Lane Bryant, Cacique, Lane Bryant Outlet and Catherines nameplates.
