The icons displayed next to character names indicate their online status. See below for more information about each status icon.

New Adventurer: Indicates that the player has just started playing FFXIV recently.

Returner: Indicates that the player has returned to FFXIV after not playing for a certain period of time.

Mentor: Indicates that the player has opted to act as a mentor to help other players. This status can only be selected by those who meet specific requirements.

Battle Mentor: Indicates that the player has opted to act as a battle mentor to help other players with battle-related information. This status can only be selected by those who meet specific requirements.

Trade Mentor: Indicates that the player has opted to act as a trade mentor to help other players with various crafting- or gathering-related information. This status can only be selected by those who meet specific requirements.

PvP Mentor: Indicates that the player has opted to act as a PvP mentor to help other players with PvP-related information. This status can only be selected by those who meet specific requirements.

Busy: Indicates that the player is currently busy.

Away from Keyboard: Indicates that the player is currently away from their keyboard or the game.

Looking to Meld Materia: Indicates that the player is looking to meld materia onto gear.

Role-playing: Indicates that the player is actively role-playing or is interested in role-playing.

Looking for Party: Indicates that the player is looking to join a party.

Recruiting Party Members: Indicates that the player is recruiting members for a party.

Party Leader: Indicates that the player is the party leader.

Party Member: Indicates that the player is member of a party.

Waiting for Duty Finder: Indicates that the player is currently waiting in the Duty Finder queue.

Bound to Duty: Indicates that the player is currently undertaking a Duty.

In Duty: Indicates that the player is currently engaged in battle, such as a levequest or treasure hunt.

Viewing Cutscene: Indicates that the player is currently viewing a cutscene.

Group Pose: Indicates that the player is currently in Group Pose mode.

Playing Triple Triad: Indicates that the player is currently participating in a Triple Triad match.

Disconnecting: Indicates that the player may be experiencing network difficulties.

Game Masters: Indicates that the character is a Game Master, a Square Enix support staff member. This status is reserved for Game Masters and cannot be selected by players.

The meteor icon is reserved for characters created by the FFXIV development and operations teams to use during live broadcasts and events, and cannot be selected by players.
