Can I Store My Fur at Home Since I Have Air Conditioning?

No. Homes can not duplicate the carefully regulated air exchange & temperatures kept below 50 degrees. A constant humidity level of 50% is optimal to help keep your garment soft & supple & prolong its wear ability. Homes with air conditioning generally have too much humidity which can dry out the pelts.

Shearling is natural lamb skin with the fur worn on the inside and the leather side sueded and worn on the outside. Many of today's designers are designing sporty styles that fit well with today's casual lifestyle.

Will Rain Ruin a Fur?

A mild rain will not ruin your fur. Just hang the garment up to dry in a well-ventilated room away from direct heat. After it is dry, give the fur a vigorous shake. If your fur gets thoroughly soaked, bring it to a professional furrier for proper treatment.

Does Dyeing a Fur Affect Its Quality?

No. A fur that has been dyed will keep its softness and luster. Dyeing a fur is an option that many of today's designers use to achieve a look that can only be gotten by dying the pelts.

Is a Sheared Fur as Warm as an Unsheared Fur?

Yes. The warmth of the fur is determined by the underfur, which acts as an insulation. Whether or not the longer guard hairs are sheared off, the underfur remains intact and therefore provides the same warmth.

How Do I Tell Quality of a Fur?

The quality of a fur is determined by the quality of the design, the pelts and the workmanship. The design must cause a proper fit and reflect a certain look or lifestyle. The pelts must be well matched, light weight, supple and even in sheen. The workmanship must create even sewed seams and good matching.

What is the Difference Between Female and Male Mink Pelts?

Female mink pelts are generally smaller and lighter in weight than male mink pelts. Additionally, female pelts have a high luster and are very silky and soft while male mink pelts are more dense. Each garment, whether male or female, has to be judged individually based on its own quality.

Why should I store my fur?

Storage helps to prolong the life of your fur garment and to protect your investment especially during the hot and insect ridden summer months. Our onsite vaults are temperature and humidity controlled to create the perfect protective conditions in which to store your valuable items. These conditions cannot be duplicated in a private home.

Can I wear my fur in the rain, sleet, and snow?

Absolutely! Contrary to popular opinion, fur performs wonderfully in the rain, sleet, and snow. If your garment gets wet, simply let it air dry on its own by hanging it on a special contour hanger (the one we gave to you with your purchase will work perfectly). Do not use a hair dryer or any other form of heat on your garment. Once the fur is completely dry, give it a shake and it will be perfectly ready to wear again!

How often should I clean my fur?

Day Furs recommends an annual cleaning, glazing, and conditioning of your furs. Regardless of how much you wear your fur, harmful dust and pollutants in the air will settle in to the garment, robbing it of its natural luster. You will be amazed at how incredible your fur looks after a proper cleaning, glazing, and conditioning treatment.

Do I need to keep my fur in the garment bag at home?

We do not recommend storing your fur in a garment bag. Once you get home, remove your fur from the garment bag and hang it in a dark, well ventilated space on a contoured hanger. Never store your fur in plastic covering as this does not allow the skins to breathe.

What is the most popular fur that you sell?

Mink is by far our most popular fur product. Women can't get enough of the lightweight fit and comfort of sheared mink and the incredible luxury of semi-sheared minks. Many of these styles are reversible to rain taffeta. Mink is extremely versatile - it can be casual or dressy, short or long, light or dark colored. Mink can be perfectly suited to every woman's lifestyle and body type.
