Game of Thrones: Daenerys Targaryen WAS pregnant in final season? (2024)

Game of Thrones fans were desperate to know in the final episodes whether Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) was pregnant.

The Mother of Dragons had sex with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the season seven finale leaving many fans to suspect she could be carrying a child.

Now, it seems evidence has emerged suggesting she was indeed supposed to be pregnant in season eight.

In a clip shared by Game of Thrones’ official YouTube channel called “Season Eight, Episode Five, Game Revealed”, showed original filming from the instalment, which was titled, “The Bells”. The episode saw Daenerys slip into madness following the devastating losses of her closest friends.

However, eagle-eyed viewers will spot Daenerys appears to be cradling a rather obvious baby bump in the YouTube upload.

One Reddit user, MaebyG, analysed the shot and compared it with the footage from Game of Thrones’ aired episode where her stomach is flat.

They wrote alongside two grabs from each video: “Found this on Tumblr, what do you guys think? It sure looks like she has a fake bely and they reshot the scene, but at the same time it could just be a weird angle.

“EDIT: I’m more convinced by the actual video,” they added, while sharing the YouTube clip as well.

Fans came out in their droves and spotted there had been clues in interviews from Dan Weiss and David Benioff, which seemed to confirm she was supposed to be pregnant.

XoAXoS pitched in: “Even D&D kind of confirmed that she would get pregnant during the live commentary of the scene after the parlay.

“And I remember most fan theories having one thing in common - people (and I must admit I was one of those people) thought Cersei would have a miscarriage and Daenerys would carry boat baby, a perfect parallel. It would’ve set the ground for Cersei’s further descend into madness and possible Targaryen restoration.

“Our theories remained dismissed until Lena confirmed that she even shot the scene of Cersei losing her baby. Now it kinda makes sense again, and those pictures are clearly from two different shots, it is entirely possible they switched Dany and Cersei’s storylines.”

However, another user, 15Kyle15, thought it was merely a red-herring, adding: “Possibly one of those things they intentionally did to throw off potential leaks, kind of like how Jaqen and the Waif actors were present during the scene where Bran was named king… otherwise, [I don’t know.]”

Daenerys was left unable to have children following her ordeal with Mirri Maz Duur (Mia Soteriou), when she brought Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) back to life, albeit in his comatose state.

The blood magic witch told her: “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.

“When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.”

Of course, Drogo was dead, and showed no signs of returning, but what if Daenerys did actually have a child? Would than ensure she could actually bring back her “Moon and Stars”.

Perhaps the HBO show decided to reshoot as bringing Drogo back with so little time would only prove to add to the confusion of the finale.

Either way, it certainly makes for interesting theorising, as Daenerys’ pregnancy was hinted at throughout the entirety of Game of Thrones.

Meanwhile, new evidence has emerged suggesting Hodor (Kristian Nairn) was supposed to make an appearance in the Battle for Winterfell.

The beloved character was killed off in season six when he was protecting Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), but the director of the epic battle has since revealed there were plans to bring him back as a Wight.

Fans were distraught at the thought and wished Game of Thrones did bring back the fan-favourite.
