Why are pharmacies not accepting GoodRx? ›

Participating pharmacies are required to accept GoodRx through contracts with their pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). An exception is for controlled medications. Accepting a GoodRx coupon for a controlled medication is always at the discretion of the pharmacist.

On the other hand, SingleCare usually provides better prices than GoodRx. So, if price matters most to you and you live near pharmacies in SingleCare's network, you'll likely save the most money with them.

Is Kroger no longer accepting GoodRx? ›

Last spring, Kroger pharmacies stopped accepting GoodRx discounts; neither company elaborated on the points of dispute. The impasse was resolved at some point last summer, but not before the company was forced to reduce its revenue guidance by $30 million for the third quarter.

By providing users with coupons that offer discounts on medications, GoodRx encourages consumers to fill their prescriptions at partner pharmacies. The company receives a share of the profit each time a coupon is used, primarily from pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and other pharmaceutical partners.

“Pharmacies hate GoodRx's system since they lose money from the potential profit, they would have made from cash paying customers and then also lose money when they pay a fee for selling to a patient who might have used their pharmacy anyway,” says Dr. Fein.

In a first-of-its-kind proposed order, filed by the Department of Justice on behalf of the FTC, GoodRx will be prohibited from sharing user health data with applicable third parties for advertising purposes, and has agreed to pay a $1.5 million civil penalty for violating the rule.

While most U.S. pharmacies accept GoodRx discounts, there are a few exceptions to keep in mind: Walmart's new opioid policy – As of June 1st, 2018, Walmart will no longer accept any discounts for an opioid prescription.
