Guest Purposely Broke Disney Dress Code, But Failed (2024)

A TikTok trend -- Being "Dress-Coded" at Disney -- has spread throughout social media as many Guests have purposely worn inappropriate shirts to the Parks to try and get a free shirt.

Because of how popular the trend became, Disney decided to change its dress-code policy earlier this year. Instead of giving out free t-shirts, the security guards at the Parks are now turning away Guests, informing them that they must first go back to their original destination and change or they can walk to the shop and purchase a new shirt with their own money.

Recently, one TikTok user wanted to try and get the free t-shirt, but did not realize Disney World changed their policy.

Helèni, who goes by @heleniofficial on TikTok, recently posted a video that shows her in EPCOT's parking lot, wearing a tank top tied beneath her chest, however, she quickly removes the tank top and then begins to walk into the Disney Park with just a black bikini top.

"Trying the TikTok hack for a free shirt at Disney World Orlando," she wrote.

Helèni then goes on to say she was stopped by Cast Members at the gate, who she claims tried to "force" her to buy a new Disney T-shirt that would cover her bikini as her outfit did not follow the dress-code in place.

Instead of going to the shop and buying a new shirt, she put her tank top back on instead.

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense.

Inappropriate Attire

Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to:

Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older.

The controversial TikTok trend of being “dress-coded” by Disney security first began with TikTok user Amanda DiMeo, who uploaded a video explaining how to get “a free Disney shirt of your choice.”

DiMeo wore a cropped shirt to Disney World, which did not comply with the Park’s dress code. Because of this, she was pulled aside by a Disney Cast Member and was given a voucher to get a free shirt at a Disney Park merchandise location so that she could change and wear a more appropriate outfit around the Park.
