What to do if you won't be home for a package? ›

If you know you won't be home to sign

Redirect your package to another location or schedule another delivery time. A fee will apply.

UPS may make up to three delivery attempts at its discretion at your address on regular UPS delivery days. After the final attempt, undeliverable packages will be returned to the sender. To prevent your package from being returned or to make alternate delivery arrangements, track your package.

If the recipient isn't home, the USPS driver leaves a note. This note tells the recipient the next scheduled delivery time or the local Post Office location where they can claim their package. USPS will make 1-2 delivery attempts beyond the first.

If no one is available when the delivery is attempted the first time, the letter-carrier will leave a PS Form 3849, We ReDeliver for You! This form notifies the addressee that an article is being held for them at the Post Office™ and will be available for pick-up the following business day.

Can you leave a note for the FedEx signature required? Yes, you can leave a signed note that FedEx can take as evidence, and leave your package in a safe place at the courier's discretion.
