Ah, Costco cheesecake!

We’ve developed a love-hate relationship over the past few years.

There’s no denying it, it tastes and looks great.

But it comes at a cost – no, not the price tag!

That’s also really great – in fact, Kirkland fresh cheesecake is one of the most affordable ready-to-serve options out there.

My issue comes down to ingredients.

Does Costco carry cheesecakes? Which kinds?

Yes, they make their own that you can find in the bakery section along with the birthday cakes.

In fall, they sometimes move the cheesecakes to a bigger freezer closer to the bread though – I’d guess it’s a popular item for thanksgiving and Christmas time!

Does Costco have Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes?

At the time of writing this, there are four Costco frozen cheesecake options to choose from online through the business center:

  • The Cheesecake Factory Frozen Cheesecake Selection
  • Elite Sweets Frozen 10-in Pre-sliced Plain Cheesecake
  • Gizella Pastry Mini Cheesecake Treats
  • Gizella Frozen Pastry Cheesecake Selection

At our warehouse, only the fresh Kirkland Signature cheesecake is available.

Does Costco sell Cheesecake Factory cheesecake?

In Canada, they’re available online through the business center (although delivery may not be available to your postal code).

For a while, they had Cheesecake Factory Bites available in the frozen section of US stores – I can’t confirm if those are still available now.

Costco Cheesecake Flavor

Kirkland Signature New York-style cheesecake with strawberry topping is packed with flavor!

It’s creamy and delicious and the decorated ends have a nice soft whipped texture.

My kids both love it too.

If you’ve got a cheesecake craving you need to take care of, this tasty treat might be worth the splurge.

Is Costco cheesecake good?

As I said above, it is REALLY delicious!

But I can’t say that it’s good for you – the ingredients list alone makes me raise an eyebrow.

We’ll go through it in just a minute.

Costco Cheesecake Price

Kirkland Signature cheesecake retails for $17.99 Canadian.

Costco Cheesecake Ingredients

This is where the cheesecake loses major points with me.

There are just too many junk ingredients and preservatives in this cake!

Reading through the list makes me feel like we’re doing a chemistry experiment together NOT getting ready to eat a cheesecake.

Kirkland Signature cheesecake contains the following ingredients:

CAKE (CREAM CHEESE [MILK INGREDIENTS, BACTERIAL CULTURE, CAROB BEAN GUM],
GRAHAM CRUMBS (FLOUR, SUGAR, PALM OIL, GLUCOSE-FRUCTOSE, FANCY MOLASSES, SALT, BAKING SODA], SUGAR, SOUR CREAM, [MODIFIED MILK INGREDIENTS, MODIFIED CORNSTARCH, BACTERIAL CULTURE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, GUAR GUM, CARRAGEEN, CAROB BEAN GUM], LIQUID WHOLE EGG, WATER, MARGARINE, [PALM AND CANOLA OILS]. WHIPPED CREAM [CREAM, MILK, DEXTROSE, CARRAGEEN]. MODIFIED CORNSTARCH, CANOLA OIL, CORNSTARCH, XANTHAN GUM, SALT, FLAVOUR, CONCENTRATED LEMON JUICE, SOY LECHITIN). STRAWBERRY TOPPING (STRAWBERRIES, SUGAR, MODIFIED CORNSTARCH AND/OR POTATO STARCH AND/OR RICE STARCH. WATER, CITRIC ACID, FLAVOUR, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, CALCIUM CHLORIDE, ALLURA RED, BRILLIANT BLUE FCF), WHIPPED ICING (CREAM, MILK, SUGAR, DEXTROSE, MODIFIED MANIOC STARCH, CARRAGEEN, CELLULOSE GUM, SODIUM ALGINATE, CALCIUM SULFATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, FLAVOUR AND/OR CELLULOSE GEL AND/OR MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES AND/OR POLYSORBATE 80).

CONTAINS: MILK, WHEAT, EGG, SOY.

MAY CONTAIN: TREE NUTS, SESAME, TRITICALE, BARLEY, OATS, RYE, SULFITES, PEANUTS.

The ingredients list alone is why I wouldn’t buy this cheesecake again.

Soy lechitin, polysorbate 80, sodium benzoate, carrageen, and potassium sorbate?

Have you ever used these things when cooking at home?

Didn’t think so!

The presence of coloring like Allura red, brilliant blue FCF, mono and diglycerides plus the mysterious “flavour” which could be literally anything also bothers me.

Healthier Recipe Alternative

This recipe from Lauren’s Latest is the next one I’ll be trying in place of buying this premade cheesecake again.

Healthier Costco Alternative

If you NEED to pick up something sweet from Costco, I’d suggest trying the tiramisu cups instead!

They’re made in Italy with higher quality ingredients and less questionable additives.

For us, it usually always comes down to this but we enjoy trying most products at Costco at least once.

Kirkland Cheesecake Nutrition facts

For some reason, Kirkland Signature fresh foods often don’t contain nutrition facts!

But there are a number of websites online that you can find who provide estimates.

A quick search shows that one slice of cake (1/16) contains about 440 calories.

It’s also estimated to contain:

  • Total Fat: 31 g
  • Cholesterol: 125 mg
  • Sodium: 370 mg
  • Carbohydrates: 33 g
    • Fiber: 1 g
    • Sugars: 24 g
  • Protein: 8 g

These stats aren’t unusual for cheesecake!

Most of the ones I’ve tried are usually between 300 and 500 calories per serving.

It’s made of cream cheese and is just one of those indulgent treats that pack calories!

How long is Costco cheesecake good for?

Kirkland Signature cheesecake is best eaten 5 days before it was packaged.

Generally, the warehouse sells these pretty quickly.

So, the day you purchased your cheesecake on is usually the same day it was packaged!

If you downsized it and threw away the packaging, check your receipt or online account to see when you bought the cake for an estimated timeline 🙂

Can you freeze Costco cheesecake?

Yes, you can!

And since the portion you buy in-store is HUGE, it’s a great idea to pick up some glass containers to store your cake!

We recently purchased a stand-up freezer and there’s no way this package would fit as is – that said, freezing half the cake the day you bring it home or a couple of days later is probably a good idea.

Odds are you probably want to have some of your cake fresh!

Honest Costco Cheesecake Review: Final Thoughts

Kirkland Signature cheesecake is delicious but it’s a rare treat.

Like most Costco foods we’ve reviewed (with the exception of a few), there are just too many unnecessary ingredients used to make it.

The flavor is wonderful and we absolutely love the strawberry topping of this New York-style cheesecake.

Another factor to consider is its HUGE size.

We’re a family of four who gets together with extended family and friends at least once a week so this cheesecake size is fine for us.

If you don’t mind freezing it (and have the room), you could also downsize this cheesecake by placing it into a couple of glass containers for a treat later on.

It’s also delicious partially frozen and reminds me a bit of an ice cream cake.

Overall, the price is very affordable and the cake is really tasty!
