How many children do Claire and Jamie have on Outlander? (2024)

How many children do Claire and Jamie have on Outlander? (1)

There are many new people joining the Outlander fandom every day, and they tend to have a lot of questions. One is about the number of children Claire and Jamie have.

If we’re looking for the straight answer, it’s two. Claire and Jamie only have two biological children together: Faith and Brianna.

Faith was the stillborn baby in France. Mother Hildegarde baptized the child despite it being against the law, and Jamie never got to see her. He was in the Bastille at the time, and Claire almost died of childbed fever. Master Raymond was the one to save her from that.

Brianna was born in 1948 despite being conceived in 1746. She was the child Frank would raise for her whole childhood as his own, and it was only after Frank’s death that Brianna found out the truth. Brianna was an adult by the time Jamie met her.

Doesn’t Fergus count on Outlander?

The straight answer is two children, but there are some technicalities when it comes to children between Claire and Jamie onOutlander. We can’t forget Fergus.

Fergus is the young boy Jamie employs in France. Fergus, known as Claudel in France, steals for Jamie, and Jamie makes a promise that he will always look after Fergus should he be arrested and lose a hand for his crimes.

While he isn’t caught for stealing, Fergus does eventually lose a hand and Jamie upholds his promise. When Claire returns, she still cares for Fergus and he is her and Jamie’s adopted son.

Then there is Marsali, a stepdaughter to Jamie. Marsali is Laoghaire’s daughter, and Claire doesn’t like her at first (nor does Marsali like Claire). However, the two become close, and they do form the close mother-in-law/daughter-in-law bond. She’s still not a child of Claire and Jamie’s, but she is part of the family. Roger becomes part of the family too.

But in the strictest of senses, Claire and Jamie only have two children.
