How old is Jesus Christ now @ 25th December 2020? (2024)

Good morning fellow believers of Christ. I hope our night was great!

I have a puzzling question that I felt the Lord asked me while I was pondering about the Christmas celebration, and at the same time hearing different prayers and wishes from all kinds of people.

What is the question? It's the title of the message. How old is Jesus Christ? The question has been troubling me because knowing the answer to this question will justify the reason for celebrating his birthday.

Conventionally, why do we celebrate the birthdays of people? People are always very happy and joyous, but is Christ happy and joyful? Answering this question is a clue to understanding why we need to celebrate birthdays. What do people normally ask the celebrant on that day? "How old are you?" they say. Celebrants would usually say, I am 20 years old, 5yrs old depending on the year the celebrant was born or has used on earth.

This calculation is based on the year a person was born and the current year, for instance, if a man was born in 1990, and the person is celebrating his/her birth date in 2010 or 2020, it then means that the celebrant is either 20 years old as at 2010 or 30 years old as at 2020. It then means that birthdate celebration is about learning to number our days that we might gain a heart of wisdom, the Bible says. (Psalm 90 v 12NIV). The Message translation says, "Oh! Teach us to live well! Teach us to live wisely and well!"

From that simple calculation, it means the main reason for counting or numbering our days on earth is to apply our hearts unto wisdom. It's to grow in wisdom, just as we grow in age we should also grow in wisdom.

It's all to seeking maturity and growth in both wisdom and strength. Most importantly, in the wisdom of God to help us live well as we should, based on His expectations for our lives. His expectation is not about religion but dominion as heavenly ambassadors, representing the country of heavens on earth for God.

The question is, how is old our Lord Jesus Christ? The truth is we don't know. Jesus' age is not known. If we calculate using the calendar, some could say, over 2000 years, but the truth is, Jesus Christ is more than that and his age is timeless. It then means that his age is not that important as to what he was sent to do for us, because he came for us to show us how to live in the kingdom of God and how we can be restored to what we lost when Adam sinned against God.

Jesus' birth was definite and his mission and vision were clear and exact. Let's consider the following facts about our Lord Jesus Christ:

  1. His conception was unique: nobody has ever been born like he was. There was no union between man and woman. Mary had no sexual intercourse with her husband, Joseph. The Holy Spirit overshadowed her to release God's sperm to fertilize the matured egg of Mary.
  2. When Jesus was in the womb, the natural/physical father did not top Mary's pregnancy, and Joseph did not sleep with his wife during the pregnancy period.
  3. He was born a king, saviour, ruler, the Lord, counselor. In other words, he knew why he was born. None of us knew why we were born until sometime later that we discovered it ourselves.
  4. He died, resurrected, and ascended to heaven to live forever. He's alive until now.
  5. He sits at the right hand of God making intercession for us.
  6. He's coming back to reign on earth together with us who has believed him, obeyed him, and walked with him
  7. He's the judge of all.

With all these facts and much more we can explore, it's very clear that Jesus came for a definite purpose that no one will ever fulfill again. What he came to do can't be done by another person. That's also true of us, that what God designed us for is not what another person can do. The only time God will give up on us is when we have finished our allotted time on earth. The Bible says, it's given unto a man to die once, and after that, judgment.

God never gives up on us until our allotted days on earth had passed and exhausted.

God gives each man a task to do, a need to meet on earth, a vision to fulfill, and a purpose to accomplish. Such a need, a vision, a task, and a purpose can't be executed by another person on earth while that person is still alive, God will wait for him to realize why such a man was born.

Back to our Lord Jesus Christ, Him being a baby is not useful to both heaven and man. he needs to grow to be a blessing to heaven and earth. While he was still a baby, the following could have happened to him:

  1. He is at the mercy of men.... people can kill him if he's not protected by his Father in heaven, that was why most of the time, God put him in the care of people who could give him the utmost care and protection. God never chose people who are careless with their lives or who will not obey him when he gives them instruction to them. Several times, he instructed Joseph his father, and to his mother Mary.
  2. He's a slave to man. He needed to submit his will to man, He was subject to man, especially his parents and elders around him. Gal 4v1-6
  3. He's powerless. He could not do anything for himself, he could not use all his parts as instruments of blessings to heaven and humanity.
  4. He could not bring joy to his father and help his brothers
  5. He could not save us from our sins
  6. He could not give us our lives back
  7. He was put under the tutelage of people
  8. He could only do what his job required as a carpenter
  9. He could follow men around
  10. He could be made afraid, he could be exploited, he could be destroyed

All these and much more could be done to our Lord Jesus while he's still a baby. Most believers still treat him as a baby, they believe he's not their life and Lord.

The only thing we could learn from his birth is the fact that his birth brought hope to all heavens and earth that finally, the human race is about to be saved from eternal damnation and separation. And also, that this child will grow to fulfill his very purpose on earth to bring joy to the heavens and blessing to humanity.

When I remember his birth, I think of how this child grew to fulfill his very purpose on earth. The heavens rejoiced for our sake that finally God's heart desire has been met through his son. Heaven did not rejoice because of heavens but rejoiced for our sake-the race of human who has lost touch with its creator and therefore could not dominate, replenish, refurbish, subdue, and being in charge of the earth.

Man lost the dominion that God gave him, but Jesus brought back what we lost and he showed us how to live with the governor of the kingdom of God. We lost the Holy Spirit, and Jesus came to restore him to us. But first, he demonstrated how to live like God on earth...the man was made in the image and likeness of God to have dominion on earth.

How do we have dominion? It's through growth as we work intimately and closely with the governor of the kingdom of God-The Holy Spirit. The question of how old is Jesus should be answered in the spirit or attitude of an accurate understanding of how He grew to fulfill his very purpose on earth. He grew in wisdom.

How much growth concerning the wisdom that you should have, to help you have more dominion in the area of your gifting, vision, purpose, and task, has been acquired since the last Christmas? Christmas is about growth in wisdom to fulfill your God-given vision, mission, and purpose on earth. Heaven can only rejoice when it sees us dominating in the area of our giftings and visions.

It's a time to learn how to count and number our days so that we can gain a heart of wisdom. May his blessing of wisdom be for us all to fulfill our vision and purpose on earth, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Have you grown since the last Christmas in God’s wisdom, righteousness, and grace?

Think about this as you celebrate the person of our Lord Jesus Christ!
